John Steinbeck - god, do not get me started. Truly the most depressing author of the 20th century. Right up there with Faulkner (he of the endless sentences) and Hemingway (I am man, hear me roar) on my list of "I'm supposed to like these guys?" Frankly, I think the world would be a much better place if people read more Thurber instead!
