I once wrote a paper entitled "Shakespeare as Entertainment" based on the premise that none of his plays would have been remembered if they hadn't been cracking good yarns to begin with. Included lots of quotes from Olivier, Booth, Keen, etc as well as box office numbers. The instructor was NOT amused.
