Her husband’s head popped up. “Until we catch the miscreant, of course. These things don’t happen on a schedule, Caroline.”
She sighed. “Of course. It was stupid of me to ask.”
The phrase "warrior-monk" comes to mind - he was an amazing cop, but his focus made him a terrible husband and father.
“I’m your wife, Robert. There’s no need to thank me.”
“Well. Be that as it may...I appreciate what you do."
This made me sad. *sniffle*
Wonderful job.
