This sounds like a round-robin to me. The destinations for each leg could be set by a moderator, and each of 12-13 writers might sign up for a leg by number, but they don't know what city they're getting and they have to take the circumstances left to them by the previous writer.

And I love the story. Ray would have been fine with the gang members. Snakes? Not so much. Hee!
