Appro. 1300 words
When the lights first went out, Ray figured that somewhere, squirrelly wiring in the Consulate had gone on strike, or maybe given up the ghost for good. He and Fraser stood there in Fraser's office, just breathing in the dark, until it became obvious that this was going on longer than a flicker. "You been having trouble with the lights lately, Fraser?" "No, Ray, perhaps power is out for the neighborhood. I'll go check." It wasn't storming yet, but there was one on the way. The whole day had been gray and heavy, pressing in until Ray wished it would just snap with a thunderclap and get it over with. Stuck in the dark with Fraser....Ray smiled. He heard the change in the sound of Fraser's footprints as he started down the hall. He could barely hear Fraser throw the crappy lock on the big main door. It creaked as it opened.
Ray imagined Fraser moving in the darkness, hands out in front of him, eyes uselessly wide. Probably not, though, Fraser probably moved just as efficiently in the dark as he did across the tundra. Wasn't it dark half the year up there? Ray thought of Ben's hands anyway, of Ben stumbling across him in the dark unexpectedly. Another image to add to the list: Fraser Fantasy No. 117. He slid his hand down, and gave himself a nice firm squeeze. He could hear Fraser coming back down the hall now. Ray grinned at the notion that he could give himself another squeeze, and maybe a stroke, even with Fraser in the room. But that was a real bad idea, cause of Fraser's eyes like a hawk, and ears like a - what? Bat? Fraser probably could hear a hand slide over denim, fingers slide between the buttons on a fly...yeah, really bad idea.
"Lights are out up and down the street, Ray - I expect there's nothing to do but wait until the electric company responds." "Well, what are we going to do until then, Frase?" Ray kept the grin on his face (mostly) out of his voice. This was so like a bad porno, it was funny. Not that the perpetual ache he'd been walking around with for weeks was funny, but the movie playing in his mind was so divorced from reality it made him want to giggle. "Why, whatever will we do until the lights come back on, Ray?" "Well, I have a few ideas, Fraser.....if you're up for them." Ray moved around the desk, heading toward Fraser. He didn't feel Dief slither between his legs till he was already moving, and when his foot caught on the rug, he couldn't get his feet under him properly.
Assorted crap on the desk tumbled and scattered, and one of Ray's flailing hands found Fraser's hip. "Hey!" went the animal part of Ray's brain. "Shut up!" said the logical part that didn't intend to lose his partner over something stupid and hormonal. Fraser's arms went around Ray to slow his forward momentum. Being caught by Fraser was like running into a serge-covered wall. But sexier. Ray took a deep breath (any chance to get a whiff of Fraser was worth taking) and as he relaxed, so did Frase, sliding his hands down his shoulders, to rest briefly above his elbows, then drop away.
"We...better get some of this cleared up, Ray, so we don't trip on it." Did Ray imagine a slight stutter? He grinned in the dark. Ben put a hand on Ray's arm to steady himself, or maybe just to keep track of Ray's location. Ben kneeled, and Ray could hear him gathering up things from the floor, then setting them on the desk with clicks and scrapes. Ray just stood there, thinking about Ben's head close to his crotch, imagining that he could feel Ben's breath on his thighs. When Ben put a second handful of stuff on the table, Ray stepped forward and tried to help arrange it. Stapler, picture frame, something...damp, pens. "We can leave it until tomorrow, Ray." Ben's hands found Ray's, stilling them. "Clearing the floor is sufficient tonight."
"You sure, Frase? We could give this place a real good rearranging - at least it would give Turnbull something to straighten up in the morning. Plus, hey, maybe a little more chaos in your life would do you good." "Oh, I think we both have enough chaos in our lives, Ray - do we need to create more?" "I could do with just a little more, Frase - Ben." Ray slid his hands out of Ben's loose grip, and grasped his wrists, then slid them as far up Ben's forearms as he could - not far, the serge stopped him after a few inches - but those were warm inches he hadn't had a professional excuse to touch before. Ben stepped closer - now Ray could feel his breath on his face. "Be - be sure to step over the rug, Ray - I don't want you to trip again." Ben lightly grasped Ray's waist, and moved him forward a step - without moving back himself. Ray bumped the edge of the desk, bumped one of Ben's boots with his own, then was in Ben's zone, in his orbit, like a comet pulled in to burn up. Ray could feel the heat of Ben up and down the front of him; the man put off warmth like a furnace. Ray swayed toward it, then away, then thought "fuck it". He pulled his hands out of Ben's sleeves, then threw them around Ben in a bear hug, a good solid squeeze.
"How about this, Ben? This too ...chaotic for ya?" Ben gave a little groan that almost made Ray step back, then Ben's arms settled around his waist like iron. Ray lunged forward for a kiss and ended up with a mouthful of Ben's chin instead. That was fine; Ray got a good taste of Ben while he wriggled a hand free to hold Ben's jaw steady. When their mouths connected in a sliding, rough kiss, Ray moaned at how good it was. Ben kissed like he was starving, clutching Ray as if he might be torn away. Ray planted one hand on Ben's ass, then the other. Ben shifted his weight so one leg came between Ray's, and Ray ground against Ben's thigh shamelessly, pulling Ben closer into another kiss. Ben was making these mmms and sighs that were driving Ray nuts. Ray finally turned his face aside, drawing a deep breath. Finishing this in his apartment sounded much better than finishing this in his pants, which would be inevitable if they kept this up. Another deep breath, and he stepped back, taking hold of Ben's arms so he wouldn't think Ray was pushing him away.
"Hey, Ben, let's blow this pop stand, ok?" he said, softly. As they stood there, panting, the lights flickered and came back on. Ray jumped - it was like he'd forgotten about the dark, forgotten about sight. But damn, it was great to be reminded - Ben rumpled and flushed and dirty was a treat for sore eyes. Dirty? Black smudges marked Ben's cheeks, and trailed down his shoulders and chest to his waist. Ray glanced down at himself - mostly clean, except for his hands, which were inky black. Starting to smile, Ray glanced at the desk, where an inkpad lay jumbled among the other office supplies. Snapping his eyes back up to Ben's puzzled ones, Ray said, "Come on, Ben - go get changed before we head over to my place. You're really gonna want to get out of the serge for this." As Ben turned away, frowning down at his sleeves, Ray's eyes dropped too...to where two perfectly formed black handprints stood out against the red serge covering Ben's ass.
