I wonder if things improved financially (as well as emotionally) after his departure?
I would say yes to both counts. We learn in WATE that Ray;s father was a gambler as well as drinker and that cannot have helped the family's finances at all. I don't think he;d take much interest in them whereas Ray seems to.
Emotionally I think it did them good too. Just seeing how Ray intereacts with his father's ghost we can clearly see how Vecchio snr wasn't much of a father emotionally nad maybe physcially abusing his son, hating cops etc. Although we can still see that his father has a strong influence on Ray even after his death it's only with Fraser's influence that Ray seems able to overcome the low self-confidence about certain aspects of himself his father planted. He is bale to stand up to his father's ghost in North and that seems to be the momwnt Ray is bale to overcome his father's influence.
