I am so excited to be re-reading this story. That moment when Ray calls Robert Fraser's erasure a "property crime", and sees Fraser's reaction - wow. This entire first section has this sense of breathless, driving urgency, and Fraser's character really does seem to shine through even stronger in these surroundings than in 1990's Chicago.
