Someone on Wikipedia has pointed out some things about that: for example, since leaves is a synonym for pages, the title of Leaves also describes the book itself, or any book. This particular novel is, in its paperback edition, actually literally bigger on the inside than the outside; the front cover is deliberately trimmed half an inch short of the edges of the pages.
