wow, this is one of those fics I have had to take a while between reading and reviewing, because damn. This is just incredible. So brilliantly written, with these flashes of both ray and mamet interwoven so beautifully it makes the undercover thing heartbreakingly plausible. Mamet as a character is...well, before reading this, I'd have said he was unwritable, but you've proved that completely wrong. This was so painful to read I cried in bits of it, and you've dealt with the canon of men with guns in such a breathtaking way- I thought fraser was going to find ray dead, but you just...the scene after that, where he counts the bullets is incredible, so powerful. And Fraser. God, Fraser, you've taken all the snark and control freakery, all of the repression and made him this sharp edged, grim, flawed character, but loving still. I wanted to box his ears and give him a hug at the same time. Fraser and dief interacting was wonderful, and Fraser and Ray interacting was a wonderful painful counterpoint to that. I could flail over this for hours, just...wow.
