It totally is! My dad taught me all kinds of cool stuff - including how to handle a firearm, but that was mostly because he had them around (we're a huntin' 'n' fishin' family) and he didn't want any accidents. It was older boys who taught me about defending myself, and that not much. It's a bizarre state of affairs, ain't it?
Anyway, thank you for your kind comments! The girls stepping in and giving Ray something to do about what happened, instead of feeling just useless was pretty much the spark for the story, so I'm relieved that's working out!
