OMG, I love you and your long comment! ♥ Especially since you picked out a bunch of my own favorite bits.

I have a thing for Fraser backstory, and the thread of fairy tales and chivalry running through this feels so right.

Thanks! Well, you know, DS has been described as an "urban fairytale," so given the whole whimsy vs. reality thing I wanted to riff on that. I totally had a particular book in mind (http://www.animationarchive.org/2006/01/media-kay-nielsen-east-of-sun-and-west.html) for wee!Fraser's storybook, btw. Selling one of those would indeed have given the Fraser library some extra funds, but I don't know if I ever could let go of a copy, either.)

I find Martha intriguing, and I actually like her a lot (you are not the only one!).

She taught Fraser to box out of books! ♥ ! Someone needs to fic that, can you imagine? And you know, if she and George were in China "before the war," - dude, that was a pretty unsettled time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_Resistance). They must have had some adventures.

The fairy-tale perspective on Victoria is interesting

I originally intended to have Fraser there thinking of Keat's "Lamia" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamia_(poem)). I do think that whole story, and Fraser's attitude towards it, has a very fairy-tale quality to it.

Chivalrous as always. And it's interesting how later he thinks he's made it clear he's not interested, but she takes it as encouragement.

Fraser and Frannie: So sweet, so utterly incompatible on every level. It's always puzzled me, what exactly happened that night, because under no circumstances could I imagine Frannie actually succeeding in getting beaten-to-a-pulp Fraser into the sack there. But why would she be talking to everyone at the station about how she failed? I have to figure she's just trying very hard to convince herself of what she wants to believe. And it's such a pity, because in this story at least this was the moment where, if Fraser had actually said, hey, I like you but I don't like you like that, she might have been able to hear it. But he can't hurt her feelings like that. So he thinks he's gently let her down, and she, having no real experience with guys being tactful, thinks he was saying it just wasn't the right time.

Okay, I'll stop copy/pasting the whole fic now.

*g* Feel free!

Also, I can tell that you really like poetry, right?

Ha, what was your first clue? XD If I've managed not to overwhelm the entire damn story by bunging in random poems, I'm immensely relieved. But yeah, I had way too much fun picking them all out.

I can indulge all my geeky love of botany when in Fraser POV.

Ooh, yes! I have only a very limited knowledge of botany and herbology, but I have massive admiration for people who know more. So that does work excellently well for Fraser. And it's nifty how people's different obsessions can work with the same characters in fanfic.

Thanks again for the lovely comment, and thanks X1000 for the rec! It means a lot to have my first fic in the fandom get so much love!
