I think there is such incredible kindness in this. In letting Fraser, who is tormented by the mere possibility of imperfection, believe that he got it right. And in my version of the aftermath, Ray never does tell him and Fraser just learns the way he learns everything else, assuming all the while that Ray would like anything he did. But that is, of course, my version.
Regardless, I think the reality of this makes it better. I like Ray here - even his impatience and irritation - and I love Fraser here about as much as I've ever loved him.
