It was Ray's file that killed me--I actually got this heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Ray's clearly had a hard time of it--and yeah, ok, reckless, sure; aggressive, sure; divorcing, sure--but it reads an awful lot to me like the profile of a bisexual cop, and that gave it a real depth and resonance, all the more that the words "gay" or "bisexual" or "faggot" or anything never appear in the file, nor does anything (aside from that one testimony to "mitigating circumstances") that would suggest that the 'problem' isn't Ray's fault entirely.
