Clearing out the Apartment

Fraser's apartment was bathed by late afternoon sunlight when Ray walked in. As usual, nothing was out of place, the bed neatly made, the shirts hanging in the closet. Ray circled once around the apartment, knowing it would be his last time. There was nothing left of Benny here.

Ray did not know where he found the strength to begin packing away Fraser's meagre belongings into the footlocker. The Mountie had only been gone a week and already Ray missed him more than he could bear.

Picking up the few books Ben owned, Ray noticed an envelope slipping out of one. Curious, he pulled it out. He was surprised that 'Ray' was written on it. He decided to open it.

Inside, there was a will. That's it. No personal note and Ray was disappointed. He quickly scanned the will, wondering what the Mountie had to give. Ray was astonished that besides his father's cabin, Fraser was leaving him a small fortune built in savings and investments, as well as a trust fund to take care of Diefenbaker. Smiling, Ray slipped the will back into the envelope, and put it back in its place.

When the Mountie had left on vacation, Ray had had no way of knowing that Fraser would not be coming back to Chicago.

"I've met a woman, Ray," he told his friend over the telephone. "And the RCMP has offered me a post where I can do what I was trained to do. I'll miss you, you know, but I belong here, Ray. In the North. Could you please send me my things?"

Deep down, Ray was happy for his friend. He'd found a woman, and himself at the same time. Benny would be happy now. That made Ray smile.

Hauling the footlocker with him, Ray took one final look at the apartment and closed the door behind him.

He'd be delivering that footlocker in person. He couldn't wait to see Ben's new home and meet the woman who had stolen Ben's heart.

Even if it did mean having to fly there in a rickety plane over untamed wilderness.

Dude, I like the bait and switch--you make us think you're doing Executor but then you're doing your own funky het thang! Go you for smashing expectations!

Of course, when Vecchio gets there and finds out her name is Victoria...

very interesting, and very sad for Ray. Both of them, actually.

Uh, [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred gives me chills up my spine! Please [livejournal.com profile] duesouthficrecs don't let it be Victoria. Not in this AU Universe! It was sad enough in the show but RayV hat the opportunity to keep Ben one Season longer. But if it is really Victoria Frase will be dead in a few weeks. *sniffs heartbreaking*

Anyway: Whats with Dief? If Ray brings Frasers belongings up there does he bring the wolf with him?

Have you wrote more to this Universe?

And how is the Mountie going to help RayK out of his bone deep depression if he is in the frozen north? Do the forces that be partner the Rays up?? *searching for a little silver on the horizon*

Wow, talk about 'out of the blue' feedback! I haven't been involved in this fandom for at least a year now!

>Please duesouthficrecs don't let it be Victoria.

I don't know who the woman is, but it's NOT Victoria. :-)

>Anyway: Whats with Dief? If Ray brings Frasers belongings up there does he bring the wolf with him?

The wolf is already with Fraser! Fraser vacations with him! :-)

>Have you wrote more to this Universe?

Erm, yes, but I doubt you'll find anything. I don't have a website anymore and I'm not on Ex-wood (dS fiction archive). I don't even have my original story files.

>And how is the Mountie going to help RayK out of his bone deep depression if he is in the frozen north?

This story was written pre-seasons 3 and 4, when there was no RayK.

Thank you for the feedback!
