Beta reader needed

Hi -- I'm in need of a beta reader for 3,000 words of Fraser & Kowalski for the "cheating" challenge, and despite my best efforts, it's not slash. (Not exactly, anyway.) I'm specifically looking for someone to tell me if the characterization needs improvement, if the verb tenses are all lining up, and if it's the slightest bit funny.
