On the way to the Lee Valley Store...

...to buy clamps for Jim's brother's birthday ("You can Never Have Too Many Clamps" is the motto of these men), I had a sick, twisted idea. What would happen if Dirty Dancing met Grey Owl?

By the way, the idea has no connection to the fact I was going to buy clamps. In case you're wondering.

I suppose this is AU. And it's NC-17, and it's WAY over the limit, like over 5000 words over (!), so I stuck it on my site instead:

Dancing Bear

Ray was a wildfire in his arms, one which could not be quenched by a lake or an ocean or every damned drop of water on the planet. Benton tried to hold him, but he was unconquerable, sliding and pressing and pushing against him in sensuous movements that felt like dancing, or fighting.

::whimper::

Damn, you're good.

I had trouble making the link work the first time -- the second time I clicked, it went through! So glad that it did, too.

Me, I'd vote definitely AU -- I don't see how, with the exception of major head injuries for the both of them, they could have forgotten that summer and each other! :-)

Lovely!

Lovely story - wonderful to read. I'm sorry they had to separate but at least they'll meet again someday. ^_^

For some reason I have an intense love for dS AUs, and this one is defintely joining my list of favorites. It's wonderful. Thank you for sharing it with us! <3

*sniffle* I read this while I was at work and had to keep myself from welling up at my desk.

I'm a sucker for bittersweet endings...love reading them, try to write them but have a hard time writing the bitter.

This was really gorgeous! I loved Ray paying the five bucks for the two condoms and then getting the lotion...He wanted something special to remember and he wanted to make sure Ben had something special to remember, too. *sigh* Really nice stuff!

As for the clamps, I have no idea what kind of clamps they are, but being the sick and twisted soul I am, my brain went 'you can never have too many nipple clamps? you can only use two at a time...'

Okay, you do know how wonderful this is, don't you?

This is where my brain gave up all higher function.

Benton hoisted himself from the lake and shook like a husky, splattering water all over the rocks.

Guh.

And this made me laugh.

Here I am, staring at the Eighth Wonder of the World, and all I can think to do is cover him up with graffiti.

And this was just a wonderful image.

He didn't care if the dance wasn't a real Indian dance. Or if the guy wasn't a real Indian. Or if the whole fucking town folded up at night into a big vinyl suitcase.

And, and, and--I could go on and on. Wonderful work, just wonderful.

I think someone already said this, but damn! That rocked. I love me my flashfic and my DS. And of course, all the lovely writers who give me both. :-)

Ohhh, that was lovely. I'm another sucker for AUs, and am left imagining how Fraser's first trip to Chicago might turn out a whole lot differently... Wow. Thanks for posting this!

That's how he ended up in Banff, teaching rich, middle-aged married ladies to samba.

Shriek! (throws arms around lamardeuse) I love you! That's terrific and kind of nuts, which is exactly the way I LOVE me my DS! Heee!

I giggled happily at the idea of Ray being the dance guy at a resort, but it was Fraser at the faux Indian village that totally knocked me senseless. Fraser in wig and buckskins, doing a fake dance. Oh my stars and garters! Loved this, absolutely loved this.
Not to mention the lake scene was nnnnnnnnnnng.

Mmm, lovely. Sigh, Dirty Dancing, one of my biggest guilty pleasures, and I can just see young, arrogant, pushy Ray dancing his way through the summer. Yummy. Loved this:
"The night we met."
"The night I was an asshole, you mean," the young man chuckled.

Very purely Ray. He doesn't mean to be an asshole, always...it just happens. I also was particularly taken with the image of RAy fighting his way through the trees in the dark, cursing and making enough noise to wake the dead.

And I love this description of Ray:
Ray was a wildfire in his arms, one which could not be quenched by a lake or an ocean or every damned drop of water on the planet. Benton tried to hold him, but he was unconquerable, sliding and pressing and pushing against him in sensuous movements that felt like dancing, or fighting.

You get it, right there: that's Ray, perfectly. But larmardeuse! The ending! So damn sad! I love Ray talking around what he's trying to say, finally coming up with this:
"Shit," Ray whispered. "I wasn't expecting you."

Wow. You're as good at sad endings as you are at happy ones.

A little late in posting, but can I just say that this was excellent? I can? Thanks! *ahem* This was excellent!

I'd love to read a longer tale of young Ray and Fraser's adventures at the resort. This was very cool.
