Admin Post: 3rd Intentional Bad!Fic Exchange Assignments!

The Rules:

You now have from this point on, until Monday, two weeks from now, April 19th at midnight Chicago time (GMT-6) to complete your challenge. Your story can be any length, any rating. What you do with the summary is entirely up to you. Write a whole ficlet based on it. Write the opening/closing paragraphs of a hypothetical long fic - or give us a cookie from the middle and throw in some Author's Notes to explain the rest of the plot. Or any other option that appeals to you.

I think the most important thing is that the prompt you've been given can be used as merely a *guide* as to the fic you're writing. You don't have to match it up word for word, or idea for idea. Take the general theme and run with it. Does your prompt have something in it you're not as familiar with? A crossover reference or something else you don't know all that well? WING IT. Really. This isn't supposed to cause anyone any stress or have you trying to cram every HP book into you brain in the next four days. It's a CRACKFIC challenge. Take the idea and just kinda...go! Have FUN!

Also, I know we had a LOT of fun with the horrific spelling and punctuation in the prompts, but please, for the love of all of us reading the fics, PLEASE use regular grammar and punctuation in your story. If you're in need of a beta, ping one of the mods (

Are you ready to write something really, really wrong? Right, then! Away we go!

The Rules:

You have from now until Monday, September 7th at midnight (Chicago time) to post your story.

Your story can be any length, any rating. What you do with your prompt is entirely up to you. You can choose to write a whole ficlet based on it. The current amnesty challenge is almost over. Winter is coming to an end! \o/ Or perhaps summer is almost over. Depends on your POV. Anyway, it seems like it's time for some good, old fashioned, dirty fun. Y/Y?

china_shop is currently ~~trapped under something heavy~~ caught up in the whirligig of life and has taken advantage of my current bout of Challenge Fever and asked me to run the next

ds_flashfiction event: the 2nd Due South Intentional Badfic Challenge!

It's going to be HORRIFICALLY ASTOUNDINGLY EYE-POPPINGLY AWESOME! So come and play - let your crazy out!! We're looking for as many people to participate as we can get. We need older writers! Brand new writers! Older fans! New fans! Fraser fans! Fans of both Rays! WELSH fans!

I'll give you a day to really think of the BEST BADFIC SCENARIO you can possibly come up with, and then, tomorrow, it's a GO!

How it works: Everyone submits a badfic prompt. If you submit a prompt I will assume you are also writing. Prompts will be randomly shuffled and assigned. You then have the two week challenge time to write and post your badfic.

It's fun! It's easy! It's Due South! We have MOUNTIES. And COPS. And CANONICAL deaf half-wolves and talking dead fathers and Turnbull. The crazyfic writes itself!

I will put up a master post for you to submit your badfic prompt tomorrow. Assignments will be handed out at the end of the week.

POSTING INSTRUCTIONS!
1. Posting Period: Begin posting snippets and icon sets anytime from now! The deadline is Friday night at 10PM CST (12/22, 22:00). All times are Chicago time.

2. Format:

a) Post your snippet or icon set on

ds_flashfiction with this SUBJECT LINE: "DS Holiday Party: for (recipient's name), by (your name)". (Example: DS Holiday Party: for sageness, by thebigbluemonster.) This means that it's easy for your recipients to find what you've made them, and easy for our lovely archivist to archive them.

b) In the ENTRY, state the prompt number and the prompt, so we can keep track of who's posted. If you prefer, you can put the prompt at the end of the story so as not to spoil the surprise. Post your story behind a cut-tag. Thanks!

STEP THREE: Assigning prompts
You'll receive a comment reply on the sign-up post from

sageness telling you your number(s). (Shhh! Don't tell what your number is!)

Now, PLEASE scroll down and check that your sign-up information is listed correctly. If it isn't, TELL US ASAP by commenting on the sign-up post!!!

Next, read through the sign-ups below, pick one you like (DO NOT PICK YOURSELF!), and assign them a prompt!

~ prompts for snippets are: A character or pairing and a SINGLE LINE OF DIALOGUE.
~ prompts for icon sets are: A simple character request, with a brief wording suggestion if you want.

For example:
#7 - Gardino/Thatcher "I never would have thought of that."
#18 - I'd like some Mort icons, please - maybe with "Mort" in Old English lettering.

More on icons: Text you want to appear on an icon should be fewer than 7 words long, or else it gets too crowded. Icon sets will contain 4 to 6 icons. These can be variations on a theme, or all quite different. Icon recipients can pick one or two to be exclusively for them, if they wish, and the rest will be shareable to all.

Important notes:

1. You can choose to receive ICONS and/or SNIPPETS, no matter what you signed up to create. Mix and match, it's all good! :D

2. Assign exactly as many prompts as you signed-up to write/icon. That is, if you volunteered to write/icon 2, then you must assign 2 as well.

3. Please keep in mind that the faster everyone assigns prompts, the more time everyone will have to work on their snippets/icons!

The DS Intentional BADFIC Challenge!!!

All right, people. LISTEN UP!!

First, I'd like to thank Ces for saying that the first word synonomous with Estrella is fun. And not, you know, CRAZYCAKES or INSANITY or, uhm, penguin bukkake or something. Really. That totally rocked, darlin. So thank you!

Ok! What we're gonna do for the next two weeks, instead of your regularly scheduled flashfic challenge, would be the Due South Intentional Badfic Challenge! This will be modeled after the same type challenges done in the Harry Potter fandom, as well as SGA and Smallville fandoms and really, seriously, tell me WHAT those fandoms have that DS doesnt, right? We have MOUNTIES. And COPS. And CANONICAL deaf half-wolves and talking dead fathers and Turnbull.

We have TUNRBULL. And if that doesnt incite you to write some funny ass fic, I dont know what will.

What I'm going to do now is link you all to the HP and SV/SGA badfic challenge(s) that were run recently by the wonderful

mctabby and

svmadelyn respectively, so you can take a look at all the crazy ass suggestions and propmts that were given. Then, I'm gonna give you a day to STEW over this. To really think of omg, the BEST BADFIC SCENARIO you can possibly come up with, and then, tomorrow, it's a GO. There will be a master post for you to submit your badfic propmt, and then everyone who submits a prompt will be assigned a *different* prompt to write later this week.
