Title: The Adventures of Merlin Kowalski: a due South and The Adventures of Merlin Fusion
Prompt: "It's not Frannie who shows up at Fraser's door in custom-made lingerie, but Thatcher or Elaine. Instead of ""Don't be afraid,"" what does Thatcher/Elaine say? The timeline can be different -- it doesn't have to be S1 and Fraser doesn't have to have been beaten up by Zuko's goons."
(I went in a very AU direction with this prompt.)

Rating/Warnings/etc: Close to a general audience rating, but I'm gonna say Teen & Up because of the leather corset and because of the slash pairing. Warning” for run-on sentences and cliffhanger ending.

“In a land of myth and a time of magic, the destiny of a great kingdom….”
The first thought that King Benton had when he heard someone enter his royal quarters unannounced and unexpected was how his Advisor and best friend, Raimundo of Octavia, would often chide him with “Benny, the King should have a door that locks”. In this case, though, a lock would have made no difference, for it would not have stopped Megana Pendragonlady, Sorceress and High Priestess of the Cult of Thatcher.
“Are you afraid?” said Megana, standing just inside the doorway, garbed in her magical leather corset. Benton could see, behind Megana, his guards sprawled insensate on the hallway floor, struck down by Megana’s spell-casting.
“Afraid? Simply because you are a power-mad, manipulative sorceress wearing a magical leather corset that gives you the ability to make men do your bidding? Not particularly, no,” the King replied, outwardly appearing calm while inwardly he was fighting the urge to go fetch Megana’s clean laundry for her from Megana’s maidservant, Elainevere.
Meanwhile, on Megana’s private island in the lake they call Michigan, King Benton’s Consort, Merlin Emrys ”I Go By My Middle Name” Kowalski, was attempting to escape from the spell-locked room guarded by Megana’s minion, Sven. (The room had also been tastefully decorated by Sven, who doubled as Megana’s interior decorator.)
Emrys was a born Sorcerer with magical powers of greatness – but unfortunately he had a tendency to pause while trying to come up with the right word, or worse yet, he sometimes substituted a similar-sounding word – not serious in common English conversation, but anywhere from ineffective to disastrous when spell-casting. Whether it was this idiosyncrasy or the strength of Megana’s room-locking spell, Emrys had not been able to escape the room. It was time to call for the help of Diefengharrah, the Great Dragon.
Along with being a born Sorcerer, Emrys was the son of a Dragonlord, so, upon his father’s death, the son became a Dragonlord himself, with the power to call and command dragons. And so he called Diefengharrah, the Great Dragon: “O drakon, e male so ftengometta tesd’hup’anankes!” This was a spell that Emrys always pronounced briskly and correctly…but when calling in times of great stress he didn’t always take into account Diefengharrah’s deafness and that the Great Dragon will save him but only if he sees him. (The dragon’s eardrums had been damaged while rescuing King Benton from the icy grasp of The Lady of the Lake.)
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Will Megana turn King Benton into her errand-boy? And if so, how much will that affect Elainevere’s workload?
Will Emrys be able to reach the deaf Diefengharrah silently by telepathic means, and thus be rescued by him, and if so, how much redecorating will Sven have to do after The Great Dragon sets the place on fire?
Will King Benton see the apparition of his dead father, King Robert of Fraser, and if so will Benton proclaim “Methinks I see my father….in my mind’s eye,” or will that not be until Geoffrey Tennant centuries hence?
And will I later make good on the slash potential of King Benton and Royal Consort Emrys?
Date: 2021-04-21 08:24 am (UTC)Firstly the names and titles of the dramatis personae -- hilarious and so appropriate! Especially King Benton of Canadalot, the Once and Future Mountie; Megana Pendragonlady, Sorceress and High Priestess of the Cult of Thatcher; Merlin Emrys ”I Go By My Middle Name” Kowalski, Sorcerer, Dragonlord, and Royal Consort; Sven, Megana’s minion; and Diefengharrah, the deaf dragon!
Secondly “Are you afraid?” said Megana, standing just inside the doorway, garbed in her magical leather corset.
I love this:
...inwardly...fighting the urge to go fetch Megana’s clean laundry
and this:
he didn’t always take into account Diefengharrah’s deafness and that the Great Dragon will save him but only if he sees him
because these canon details are fantastic. And how can you not love a magical leather corset?!
Not being familiar with Merlin, the "English Arthurian legends" part of my brain defaults to the Monty Python and the Holy Grail version ("strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government..." "...it is a silly place") -- which makes it even funnier, imo! Thank you kindly for this cracky fill!!
Date: 2021-04-23 03:11 am (UTC)If someone knew both dS canon and TAoM canon, they would also see that there are crossover canon-related details. I know that you got Canadalot being a play on Camelot, and The Once and Future Mountie being a play on The Once and Future King. Megana Pendragonlady is a play on the Sorceress and High Priestess Morgana Pendragon, and changing Pendragon to Pendragonlady is because of RayV calling Thatcher "Dragon Lady" in canon. Merlin Emrys ”I Go By My Middle Name” Kowalski combines the dS canon detail of Kowalski going by his middle name and the TAoM canon detail of Merlin's additional name being Emrys. The name Diefengharrah combines Diefenbaker's name with the name of TAoM's dragon Kilgharrah.
Date: 2021-04-21 01:06 pm (UTC)But one non-canon detail for which I simply must know its origin is “O drakon, e male so ftengometta tesd’hup’anankes!”. What language is that? Is it a real language language, or fictional? How did you come to choose it (O, Librarian, Keeper of Many Countless Books)? Most importantly -- what is he saying??
