This one started out when I had some insomnia and wrote about 700 words in the middle of the night -- a shade too late for the Keys Challenge. Threw them all out, tried a couple times since, and finally decided to make one last stab at getting this done.

My sincerest thanks to the glorious [livejournal.com profile] heuradys who did some really helpful last minute beta!

This is the epitome of suck - and not the good kind either - but a challenge needs to be answered. I'm sorry for the weirdness, sadness and over-all badness of the piece, but my regular betas are rather un-fond of Due South.

The door is now locked on the Key Challenge. You can find the 27 challenge entries here.

Stay tuned for the next challenge!

My oh my, I finally complete a fic (relatively) on time. Of course, it's entirely over-length, and not particularly about keys. But still, successfully completed, and both [livejournal.com profile] jenboo and [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse were wonderful enough to respond to my panicked, last-minute pleas for beta-ing. So here you go:

I really didn't think I'd get something written for this challenge - not after three ideas didn't get beyond the first few words when I wrote them down. Naturally, idea #4 had to come to fruition at nearly midnight last night, distracting me from sleeping and preparing for the first wedding I've officiated... the one that starts in an hour and thirty minutes. (eep!) You wouldn't be seeing this if [livejournal.com profile] imkalena and [livejournal.com profile] reginagiraffe hadn't whipped through the world's speediest betas this afternoon. (Ladies, I owe ya one!) [And to everyone who saw this in ds_discourse, I swear the damned client said ds_flashfiction, just like it does now. I hope it hits the right place this time. I double checked that time, so I'm triple-checking this time - and using the other client. *sigh*]

Now, I know it's a little early for Halloween, but it's still seasonal, right? Roughly 984 words of my first Ray K story.

any suggestions for a title? I don't have time to think of one! )

...like something involving an unusual definition of "keys", as in "ten keys of cocaine". But it didn't work out that way. About 1270 words.

928 words Edited to remove one contradictory sentence that kept really bothering me, so it's 911 words now.

Lesser Key is 1120 words, but 126 of that is a quote, so I’m not counting it! This is a tribute to you who slave over your computers to keep me entertained ::g:: And I think “Keys” was a lovely idea for a challenge, so don't take Ray personally!

A response to the key challenge, this one tries, like my document challenge to be odd and subversive. Not a sequel to my tale "Demien" per se, but apparently set in the same universe. A Ray K who reads is a great Ray indeeds.

536 words. And now, I guess I need a cut tag. Thanks for the advice, [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl!!!

Once upon a time I posted a story that had the promise of pirates (the cliche challenge if you recall). I had several people ask me to include pirates, but alas that didn't work out. I hope that all of those piratey fans enjoy this instead.

Pirates of the Caribbean crossover... sort of.... coming in at 1042 words.

With enormous thanks to Heuradys for beta-ing above and beyond the call of duty (including providing the funniest line in the story), I present:

Clean Slate at 754 words. Wondered just how much of Ray’s old life he was willing to leave behind.

736 words of break-up angst for the key challenge. Much to my dismay, it turned out to be completely gen and lacking in Fraser-y goodness. But at least there's a set of keys in there somewhere ...

Just dipping my little toe in the water. First flashfiction effort that has been finished in time, sappy stuff. And seriously, none of my betas knows Due South, so if anyone knows someone available . . . ?
