Well, this is a catch-up for the Miracles challenge, which featured some rather unlikely Angels, such as here and here and here. (Don't miss the ficlet by [livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth further down in the comments on the last one!) This story is not quite in the same universe as those, but very very close....

A big special Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lynnmonster for some very helpful beta and title suggestions!

This one started out when I had some insomnia and wrote about 700 words in the middle of the night -- a shade too late for the Keys Challenge. Threw them all out, tried a couple times since, and finally decided to make one last stab at getting this done.

My sincerest thanks to the glorious [livejournal.com profile] heuradys who did some really helpful last minute beta!

Sneaking in just after the technical deadline.... (As Douglas Adams used to say, I love the whooshy noise they make as they go speeding by.)

With a title like this, you might think crossover, but you would be wrong. I still like the title though, because it works in a couple different ways....

About 1996 words, some of them even necessary.

Hey, I'm still working on that Body Switch story I started back here weeks ago. It just occurred to me this morning that I had an excerptable scene that fits the challenge... because who knows more about lying than an undercover guy in the ultimate undercover role, right?

All the setup you need for the story is: much to his surprise Ray woke up in Fraser's bed. Unlike how he'd always pictured it, Fraser isn't there, because he's across town, waking up in Ray's bed... in Ray's body. Hilarity ensues (or so the author hopes) and Ray learns that being Canadian is not as easy as it appears....

I think this one manages to combine big doses of #2 combined with elements of #5, #8, and #12. Plus, I managed to get in 'kissing up against a brick wall' which should please [livejournal.com profile] helvirago no end....

Weighing in at 1819 words (but it was significantly longer in first draft, so I still get a virtue point or two, right?):

A friend alerted me this morning to the The Do-It-Yourself Middle Earth Mary Sue Generator, which asks you a series of fill-in-the-blanks and adds them into the pre-generated text to produce a humorous result. It didn't take more than two tries to produce the following by figuring out which noun or verb or color adjective goes where. I therefore take very little credit -- it was the original author who came up with the majority of the prose... still, it's right on track for the Cliche challenge (I count at least two of the major cliches), and might make you smile....

1010 words, very few of which are actually mine....

This one gets a little (literally) inspiration from the Due South mood icons that [livejournal.com profile] cmshaw and some others use -- which I find adorable beyond all reason. Also a youthful exposure to Krazy Kat probably figures into this.

It's just a cute little thing, 300 words on the nose.

Okay, it's 1227 words or thereabout. Considering that I cut it down from nearly 1600 on the first draft, that's pretty reasonable, right?

Those damn Painted!Ray icons keep tormenting me, and then I get to thinking, they were doing drag shows as part of their undercover operation, and after all, there are curtains in drag shows, right?

Such is the slender thread of logic with which I justify what I want to do, anyway.

(FWIW, in the movie theatre of my mind, Miss Butchie (Corporal Roald Butchie, RCMP (ret.)) is played by Carmen Argenziano from Stargate SG-1. No, I don't know if the actor has ever done a drag role, but geeze would he have fun with it if he did.)

Okay, so it's a little bit over -- 1117 words, but if you squint really hard and round down really severely, it's very nearly under the limit, right? (Also, I understand that the sales tax is 15% in Nova Scotia.)

I blame some of this on [livejournal.com profile] shrift, who has been tormenting me with her evil, enticing, evil, evil, evil (and did I mention enticing?) painted Ray icons. The rest I blame on one of my favorite Australian movies, which seems to have come unstuck in time and place, and gone through a bit of a change of cast and location as well. There's probably a whole movie's worth of plot out there somewhere, you'll just have to make do with the section presented here....

Since most of you haven't seen my fiction before or know much about me, I feel a little bit constrained to mention that certain attitudes expressed by the narrator of the following story are not personal beliefs of this author. I do hope you enjoy!
