Given that this community has not been seeing any traffic, I haven't been posting any challenges. [personal profile] ride_4ever and I thought that we could open up all previous challenges on an on-going basis.

Therefore, all previous challenges and prompts are open to be filled at your pleasure! And they will stay eligible to be filled going forward.

You can find all previous challenges here: The Tag List

Please tag your entry with the appropriate challenge tag and your author tag. If you need an author tag, go ahead and post, and I'll make one for you.

Happy fic'ing everyone!

Title: Ballad of the Merman and the Landman
Prompt: "Where is the merfic in due South? Ray as a merman, or Fraser, or both!"
Prompted by: [personal profile] mific
Rating/Warnings/etc: General audience and no warnings apply.

Title: Tentacles Make Everything Better (now also on AO3)
Prompted by: [personal profile] wicked3659
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Wordcount: 1253

Prompt: Benton Fraser is actually a space alien sent here to assess human race for invasion. Meets Ray K and reevaluates his position (for better or worse, dealer's choice. 😏 In my head I'm thinking of how attached Venom became to Eddie (I'm not suggesting Fraser is of a similar alienage 😆 but what kind of alien he is is open, maybe there are tentacles 😆

As it happens, I've already written alien tentacle-fic for due South - my very first offering in the fandom, many years ago! I always meant to write a sequel to In a Strange Land so this has been a useful spur - still no tentacle-sex I'm afraid, but I did manage a bit of the romance [personal profile] resonant  mentioned in this post. It shouldn't be necessary to read my initial story (a crossover with Galaxy Quest in which Fraser and Dief are shape-shifting tentacular aliens like the Thermians, on a first contact mission to Earth) to understand this.

Title: The Adventures of Merlin Kowalski: a due South and The Adventures of Merlin Fusion

Prompt: "It's not Frannie who shows up at Fraser's door in custom-made lingerie, but Thatcher or Elaine. Instead of ""Don't be afraid,"" what does Thatcher/Elaine say? The timeline can be different -- it doesn't have to be S1 and Fraser doesn't have to have been beaten up by Zuko's goons."

(I went in a very AU direction with this prompt.)

Prompted by: [personal profile] verushka70

Rating/Warnings/etc: Close to a general audience rating, but I'm gonna say Teen & Up because of the leather corset and because of the slash pairing. Warning” for run-on sentences and cliffhanger ending.

AN: The phrase “In a land of myth and a time of magic, the destiny of a great kingdom…" is The Great Dragon Kilgharrah’s opening narration from the BBC production “The Adventures of Merlin” – no copyright infringement intended.

Title: Francesca’s Cooked-To-Order, Not-on-the-Official Menu, Impromptu Pizza Puff Panzerotti
Prompt:"So the gang works at a combo coffee shop-bookstore called The Two-Seven & The Consulate, with Welsh as coffee shop manager and Thatcher as bookstore manager - and solves mysteries on the side. Dief has a mysterious vest/license set up as something vaguely resembling an emotional support animal, though Fraser would never admit he needed any such thing, which allows him to hang around the coffee shop and beg for baked goods at every opportunity. And Fraser has a coterie of regulars who show up just to stare at him. He also makes sure all their leftovers at end of day go to feed the homeless. And when we join our heroes for this story, Fraser has just come back from vacation and discovered that his usual partner in coffee slinging has disappeared and been replaced by another guy who claims to be 'Ray' and also that they're dealing with a couple of arson cases that hit close to home. And to top that off, their usual cashier, Elaine, has been hired away and been replaced by Ray's annoying sister. What's a mountie to do??"
Author: verushka70
Rating: G
Word count: 763 according to LibreOffice Writer
Notes/Warnings: Um. I had a really hard time trying to write something to such an incredibly specific prompt... to the point of writer's block, almost. Hopefully this captures the spirit of the prompt.
Summary: A customer questions the menu at Francesca's Cafe, provoking manager/co-owner Welsh's ire and manager/co-owner Frannie's attempt at compromise, as Fraser and Ray look on.

Title: F.A.A.
Prompt: Prompt: "Frannie Vecchio is an addictions counselor working with food-related addictions in a group therapy setting. Some of the members of the group are Renfield Turnbull (addicted to watching cooking shows, especially "Chopped Candada" with Dean McDermott), Ray Kowalski (addicted to Benton Fraser a mix of coffee and chocolate candy), Diefenbaker (addicted to donuts), Harding Welsh (addicted to deli sandwiches), and Benton Fraser (not addicted to anything food-related, but, "Fight Club style," addicted to attending support groups). Someone in the support group turns out to be a Cylon, but who?"

The Rules:

You now have from this point on, until Monday, two weeks from now, April 19th at midnight Chicago time (GMT-6) to complete your challenge. Your story can be any length, any rating. What you do with the summary is entirely up to you. Write a whole ficlet based on it. Write the opening/closing paragraphs of a hypothetical long fic - or give us a cookie from the middle and throw in some Author's Notes to explain the rest of the plot. Or any other option that appeals to you.

I think the most important thing is that the prompt you've been given can be used as merely a *guide* as to the fic you're writing. You don't have to match it up word for word, or idea for idea. Take the general theme and run with it. Does your prompt have something in it you're not as familiar with? A crossover reference or something else you don't know all that well? WING IT. Really. This isn't supposed to cause anyone any stress or have you trying to cram every HP book into you brain in the next four days. It's a CRACKFIC challenge. Take the idea and just kinda...go! Have FUN!

Also, I know we had a LOT of fun with the horrific spelling and punctuation in the prompts, but please, for the love of all of us reading the fics, PLEASE use regular grammar and punctuation in your story. If you're in need of a beta, ping one of the mods ([personal profile] seleneheart or [personal profile] ride_4ever) and we'll get you hooked up with someone!

When you post your fic please make sure to use this as your header (copy/paste code below):

Please tag as: challenge:badfic 3, and author:[you]

Again, this is all for fun, but if you signed up, please try and get your fic done in time! This should be a quick and easy process! Have some fun with it! If you realize that you're NOT going to be able to participate, please drop a comment in this post. Everyone else, if you would like to pick up a prompt or do a second fic, etc, check the comments here and grab one when it suits your fancy.

assignments under here )

Go out and have a great time!

If you have any concerns about your assignment, you can DM one of the mods, [personal profile] ride_4ever or [personal profile] seleneheart.

This is the THIRD Bad!Fic challenge here at [community profile] ds_flashfiction!

If you would like to see the results of the previous challenges, for inspiration or whathavevyou, please see:
First Bad!Fic Challenge: everything tagged the first go-round
Second Bad!Fic Challenge: everything tagged in the second challenge.

The rules are as follows:

Please comment on this post with your badfic prompt. Prompts will be open from now (!!!) until Thursday, April 1st (April Fools!!!), midnight Chicago time (UTC-6). If you are commenting that means that you will also be writing, but NOT your own prompt. Think of your prompt as the way to get SOMEONE ELSE to do your crazy bidding! And you, in turn, will be doing someone else's!

I will shuffle all the prompts and re-assign them, and on Monday, April 5, there will be a master list letting everyone know what they are writing and for who. You'll then have two weeks to complete your assignment, and make the world an even MORE AWESOME place.

The most important things are:

This is going to be FUN! And FUNNY! Badfic doesn't mean you lose all sense of grammar and punctuation. It means that if you've ever had a burning desire to turn Fraser into a ballerina and Dief into a monkey, HAVE AT IT! Request it as a songfic! Bring in the aliens! In this challenge, badfic means COMPLETELY SELF-INDULGENT CRACKFIC. There is NOTHING you cannot put in your prompt! ANYTHING goes!

ONE prompt per person, please!! It's an exchange of prompts - each person who makes a prompt will get a fic in return!!

WIN-WIN!! So much winning!!

Please, even if you've never written in DS before, or haven't written in DS in a long time, or are a current writer or an old hat, try and think something up and participate in this! What better way to toe your way into (or BACK into) writing or writing in DS?

ETA: If you are a Tumblr user and want to participate, please include your Tumblr username and we'll get you included!

If you would like to promote this exchange with the banner below, copy/paste from the text below.

Please tag your entry with the appropriate challenge tag and your author tag. If you need an author tag, go ahead and post, and [personal profile] seleneheart will make one for you.

In the spirit of trans-border cooperation, let's have a challenge inspired by the national anthems of the United States and Canada. You can use the words of the anthems themselves, something about singing them (hello sporting events, the Olympics, etc.) or anything else anthem-related you can dream up!

Lyrics to The Star-Spangled Banner. Yes, the whole thing. Didn't know it was so long, did ya?
The Star-Spangled Banner (USA) )

And now for O Canada (a much more reasonable song for multiple reasons), with bilingual bonus:
O Canada )

Authors: please tag your fic with your author tag. If you are new, I will make a tag for you as soon as I get the posting notification.

This challenge will run until February 23, 2020 at midnight, Chicago time (CDT, UTC-6). Please tag your entries with 'challenge: national anthems’. Have fun, everyone!

If you have suggestions for future challenges, please comment to the community sticky post with your idea.

“Hey, Fraser, wanna go see a movie?”
“Certainly, Ray. What do you have in mind?”
“Harrison Ford’s latest, Call of the Wild.”

You see what I did there? Yep! Write your fic and use a due South episode title in the body of your fic. For two part episodes, such as Chicago Holiday, just use that title, and not the parts. Please indicate in the text using Italics or otherwise, the episode title. Your fic title can be whatever you choose.

Can't remember them all? Here's a list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Due_South_episodes

Authors: please tag your fic with your author tag. If you are new, I will make a tag for you as soon as I get the posting notification.

This challenge will run until February 9, 2020 at midnight, Chicago time (CST, UTC-6). Please tag your entries with 'challenge: episode title text’. Have fun, everyone!

If you have suggestions for future challenges, please comment to the community sticky post with your idea.

Chicago is a city famous for its many distinctive landmarks, from the Willis *cough*Sears*cough* Tower to the Cloud Gate (The Bean) to the Navy Pier. And loads in between, including my absolute favorite, the building stones of the Chicago Tribune building (don't get me started, I will go on about how amazing it is).

For this challenge, consider all the famous sights/sites in Chicago and use one (or more) as the prompt for your fic. Wikipedia list if anyone needs an inspiration or starting point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chicago_Landmarks

Set your fic in one of them! Make them the scene of a crime! Have Fraser drag Ray(s) around to them! Whatever you like!

Authors: please tag your fic with your author tag. If you are new, I will make a tag for you as soon as I get the posting notification.

This challenge will run until January 26, 2020 at midnight, Chicago time (CST, UTC-6). Please tag your entries with 'challenge: chicago landmarks’. Have fun, everyone!

If you have suggestions for future challenges, please comment to the community sticky post with your idea.
