Admin Post: The THIRD dS Bad!Fic Challenge: Prompts Are Open!!!

This is the THIRD Bad!Fic challenge here at ds_flashfiction!

The rules are as follows:

Please comment on this post with your badfic prompt. Prompts will be open from now (!!!) until Thursday, April 1st (April Fools!!!), midnight Chicago time (UTC-6). If you are commenting that means that you will also be writing, but NOT your own prompt. Think of your prompt as the way to get SOMEONE ELSE to do your crazy bidding! And you, in turn, will be doing someone else's!

I will shuffle all the prompts and re-assign them, and on Monday, April 5, there will be a master list letting everyone know what they are writing and for who. You'll then have two weeks to complete your assignment, and make the world an even MORE AWESOME place.

This is going to be FUN! And FUNNY! Badfic doesn't mean you lose all sense of grammar and punctuation. It means that if you've ever had a burning desire to turn Fraser into a ballerina and Dief into a monkey, HAVE AT IT! Request it as a songfic! Bring in the aliens! In this challenge, badfic means COMPLETELY SELF-INDULGENT CRACKFIC. There is NOTHING you cannot put in your prompt! ANYTHING goes!

Frannie Vecchio is an addictions counselor working with food-related addictions in a group therapy setting. Some of the members of the group are Renfield Turnbull (addicted to watching cooking shows, especially "Chopped Candada" with Dean McDermott), Ray Kowalski (addicted to Benton Fraser a mix of coffee and chocolate candy), Diefenbaker (addicted to donuts), Harding Welsh (addicted to deli sandwiches), and Benton Fraser (not addicted to anything food-related, but, "Fight Club style," addicted to attending support groups).

Someone in the support group turns out to be a Cylon, but who?

In my head I'm thinking of how attached Venom became to Eddie (I'm not suggesting fraser is of a similar alienage 😆) but what kind of alien he is is open, maybe there are tentacles 😆

That's very kind of you, but as Ride says, it *is* a flashfiction comm. I'm just not very good at flashfiction, but I'm happy to read and cheerlead :)

Ah. I didn't realize it was the short works aspect that was actually the negative for you. I do understand about various writers having various length preferences (my affinity as a writer is for writing shorter works -- I've even been published in flashfiction anthologies outside fandom -- so I did need to have it pointed out about that being a drawback for some writers).

Glad that you're in for reading and cheerleading -- that too is community participation!

Just a reminder that this is a flashfiction comm: the minimum word-count is drabble length, just 100 words. (I know that even a drabble sometimes isn't doable in a given time-frame, but I'm just pointing out this comm's very minimal minimum-length rule in case it makes a difference to you.)

ETA: Or, as seleneheart says, we would extend the deadline to make it a lower-pressure higher-participation thing.

(my brain tends to run to 3000 words minimum, and very slowly, so flashfic is tricky for me)

I completely sympathize. Everything I write turns into some behemoth novel-size thing. It drives me nuts, and leads to many more WIPs than finished fics. Sigh.

Okay, here goes:

It's not Frannie who shows up at Fraser's door in custom-made lingerie, but Thatcher or Elaine.

Instead of "Don't be afraid," what does Thatcher/Elaine say?

The timeline can be different -- it doesn't have to be S1 and Fraser doesn't have to have been beaten up by Zuko's goons.

That's a twist alright!

Sliding in at the last minute, we're going cozy mystery coffee shop AU!

So the gang works at a combo coffee shop-bookstore called The Two-Seven & The Consulate, with Welsh as coffee shop manager and Thatcher as bookstore manager - and solves mysteries on the side. Dief has a mysterious vest/license set up as something vaguely resembling an emotional support animal, though Fraser would never admit he needed any such thing, which allows him to hang around the coffee shop and beg for baked goods at every opportunity. And Fraser has a coterie of regulars who show up just to stare at him. He also makes sure all their leftovers at end of day go to feed the homeless. And when we join our heroes for this story, Fraser has just come back from vacation and discovered that his usual partner in coffee slinging has disappeared and been replaced by another guy who claims to be 'Ray' and also that they're dealing with a couple of arson cases that hit close to home. And to top that off, their usual cashier, Elaine, has been hired away and been replaced by Ray's annoying sister. What's a mountie to do??
