It sat there on the table, calling to him, mocking him. He couldn't take his eyes off it - he'd been sitting there for hours, ever since his partner had gone off to work; his attention was riveted by that one object, so simple, so beautiful. So unattainable.

He uttered a faint noise of longing, somewhere between a whine and a whimper. No one was around to hear - he could debase himself all he wanted.

Oh, he wanted it.

He eyed the clock - nowhere near the end of day, dammit. He had ages to go before Fraser came back. He could stand it. He was master of his soul. He was better than his base impulses.

He pounced.

Fraser entered his apartment to find a disaster area. Table and chairs had been knocked over, there were bits of wet wrapping strewn everywhere, and Diefenbaker was looking up guiltily from the silvery object he'd been gnawing on.

"Oh, for God's sake," Fraser sighed. He picked up a small metal key from the kitchen counter and sternly waved the wolf away from the large canned ham.
