Give him a few years. He doesn't know what it's like to have his parents around much. And if your parents are living you at least can move far, far away. Dead, they can easily follow.
It's sort of a case of be careful what you wish for. You revisit poor Fraser five years from the time this story took place and he may not think it's so grand. :-)
