When I saw the challenge I wasn’t instantly hit with inspiration, for I’m more a girl of characters than of environments. When I read Cesperanza’s note that “geography is character, and vice versa” my Muse nodded enthusiastically however, and summoned me to “pick a secondary character from the fandom, take him apart and rebuild him into someone entirely new, without messing with the canon”. “Huh?” I said. “It’s possible,” she replied with confidence. That’s my story and I stick to it.
About the fic itself: it features drag and for that I apologize, because DancesWithChopstick specifically requested not to be bothered by drag for once. I couldn’t have written the story without it however. Also, when I realized that I was able to name titles and authors of fics that featured the settings DWC mentioned as examples of originality, I relaxed a little. Apparently, ‘new’ was not to be interpreted too strictly. This fic is new in two respects; to my knowledge, pov and pairing are unprecedented (Please correct me if I’m wrong about this).
Additional info: R, m/m slash, roughly 6600.
