459 words and still no canon. I was listening to this dialog in my head last night. Just a short piece about going public.
“I’m sorry, Ray.”
“We knew it had to happen eventually.”
“Certainly, but not here, not this way.”
“Any way would still be pretty awkward. It could have happened at the precinct or the consulate or the alley behind the bakery.”
“Ray, you promised!”
“Ben, I can’t believe you’re still so freaked about that alley, especially now!”
“It was just so - embarrassing.”
“It was also the best blow job I’ve ever had. And at least there weren’t cameras in the alley.”
“There were cameras this time.”
“Well, that’s a given. But you have to admit I helped.”
“I hardly think so, Ray. I should have been able to control my passions, particularly since I am the one who lectured you on discretion when we began.”
“Yeah, but we didn’t take into account just how weird the situation was gonna get. I mean Muldoon getting locked away forever was a major thing. Anybody would have cheered.”
“Cheers are excusable, but grabbing you in the middle of a crowded courtroom is not.”
“Hey, you could have even gotten away with that - I think it was the lip-lock that put us over the top.”
“Oh, dear. Ray - do you, is it going to be terribly bad?”
“Nah, they’ll get over it and some new story will take over.”
“This isn’t going to vanish overnight, Ray.”
“No, but we are. I mean, we’re still leaving tomorrow for Franklin, aren’t we?”
“If you still wish to - perhaps it would be better for your career if you went back to Chicago. I could--”
“I’m gonna kick you in the head if you finish that sentence, Ben. I’m not going back to Chicago. Haven’t we been through this already?”
“Understood, Ray, but I wanted you to know you had options.”
“”You’re the only option, you freak. Now let’s get outta this place. I want a chance to fuck you into the mattress while we still have some place warm to do it.”
“I like that option. And room service as well?”
“Yeah, we can watch the news - I always wanted to know what we look like when we kiss like that.”
“Perhaps we should call your parents first, Ray. To soften the blow.”
“You’re kidding, right? They’ve been watching the trial live from the git go. And since time, tide, and CNN wait for no man, I bet I’ve got about a dozen messages waiting back at the hotel.”
“Oh, dear, Ray they will want my head!”
“You’re thinking way too high, Benton. But at least some good came out of this. I would have preferred that my mom and dad didn’t find out I’m gay on international television, but at least they can’t go into denial about it if Wolf Blitzer is reporting it.”
