it was theoretically possible that Ray's more was the same as Fraser's more. It would make a sort of sense. And yet, [...] He literally couldn't imagine Ray saying that he reciprocated his feelings, or picture the two of them being happy together, except in a limited physical sense
Man, right back to how I see them in canon. Maybe they *do* want (some of) the same things. But for it to actually work out seems... improbable.
The icy fingers of hypothermia . . . ah, that's better.
*giggle* Freak!
Ray wasn't notorious for his self-control, but he clearly had more than most people might think. But he wanted. More.
And I'm just sure by now that Fraser's certain that RayK's wanting more means RayK might actually try to make something happen. RayK actually indulges himself sometimes. And in the back of his head, Fraser's going Guh. Please! but also, Eeeek!
An expectant grinding began, the subtle sound of gears catching in the clocktower that meant the bells were about to ring to signal the end of his shift.
And I've got the picture in my head again, of Fraser just coming alive like Galatea, striding forward to climb into the car on top of RayK and just kiss him and kiss him.
Another of those sounds that apparently only Fraser could hear.
(Second read: Oh, oh, I should have *got* this. This is a reminder that Fraser's different from everyone else, that he knows it, that knowing he's different is maybe not good for him, because he *can't* indulge himself [as RayK does] because then terrible things happen [like betraying your best friend]...)
Son, never chase a man over a cliff.
And I-- I love this because I *don't know* for sure what his dad's advice is supposed to mean.
The bells began to ring. They rang. They kept ringing. They stopped; his shift was over. Fraser didn't move.
Oh. Ow. Ow.
Because I'm hearing the bells and I'm seeing Fraser *moving*, and I think he sees *himself* moving but he's not moving. He *can't*. He's just-- he's wanting, and wanting is too awful for him and he can't let go of the idea of smooshing RayK any more than he can actually let himself smoosh RayK, and he should be walking over to say a casual hello like they're just friends and they don't desperately want to shag each other, but he's still hearing the bells and thinking about kissing Ray, about fucking Ray. So he's just *stuck* there.
