Thanks for this, geekwriter. I really like stories that make Stella a sympathetic character and let me see her a little better. We never really get to know her on the show, which frustrates me, because she was such a huge part of Ray's life and we know so little about her. And I get really annoyed with fic depicting her as a super-bitch; it's disappointing when a writer stoops to two-dimensionalism, and it's insulting to Ray's character to say that he would marry such a person.
I love so many of the touches you put in: the bartender giving Ray free beer, Ray kissing the hand in Stella's hair, Stella deciding to drop the hyphen, Ray's dancing as a peacemaking technique, the image of Stella buckling down with the coupon section the next morning... it's details like those, so true to the characters, that really make me believe in a story. This was lovely.
