Oh, between S&A finale (which I gather was heartbreaking) and September 11 and whatnot, I'm touched that you read this silly story at all, let alone enjoyed.
I, like you, love undercover-at-a-gay-bar stories. Yay! But it seems like they always go straight from bar to dancing to the big erection reveal, and I would like to read one that was more like "What if they went undercover at a gay bar on the show?" I'm convinced that Fraser would do it gamely and cheerfully, and, as you say, poor Ray, trying to make it work but not wanting to fit in too well.
I think my favorite part is that the 'queer' part turned out to be the fact that it wasn't queer.
Well, that's what always strikes me - we all, I've done it too, type those "That's qu- weird" lines, but on the show, he seems totally unconscious that there's another meaning. So I wanted to have him even surrounded by queerness, still using it to mean 'strange.' Thank you for this challenge by the way - great idea!
And I'm happy you liked the line about recognizing Stella - I was thinking it would be like the equivalent of the soundtrack music changing when he sees her, that kind of thing. *hugs you*
