I love how dreamlike and distant this is, which actually, paradoxically, increases the emotional impact, and it's absolutely perfect for a Fraser POV. I love how it slowly builds, giving Fraser little pieces to hold on to, one at a time, and all the small reverses and allusions to canon, the night-day-night storm and the two axes, and someone else telling Fraser a story for once. The fact that he can initially only talk to someone who doesn't understand him just breaks my heart. And he does need to learn how to let go, to bury his dead, and the way it falls out here is beautiful and spot-on and very deftly handled, and the redemption and peace at the end. Thank you for this.
