I like maybe - maybe - one in a dozen magical creature stories. People become enamored with the stereotypical attributes of a particular creature and they tend to let the characterization fall by the wayside. You have gone in the exact opposite direction and the end result is completely gorgeous. The lycanthropy is very much in service of the character. All of the behaviors, the thoughts, the actions are entirely Fraser and the choice to make him a werewolf gives wonderful insight into who he is. It actually manages to make him more himself and explain the parts of him that don't entirely make sense within canon, such as his ability to talk to Dief.
Anyway, this is just a gorgeous story and I find it very moving. And I say keep going with the dogsledding fixation as long as you like. Your focus on the dogs in dS adds a lot to our little fannish supplementary canon.
