Hee, you made me giggle so much with this conversation. All the word choices were very specific to invoke the not-our-universeness (i.e. steampunk) of RayK. So, not so much an interest in 17th century furniture, as just knowing it was an old-fashioned word for a couch.
You know what? I actually realized that after I looked up "steampunk" and found out what it was. I just never got back here to post again about it. But I realized also that I was totally right the first time about the authorship of the story, and, really, your fic archive provided the biggest clue. (Well, Stars' accidentally giving herself away helped, too.) It's quite an amazing story, and I only wish I could have given you more eloquent feedback at the time.
As it is, I just typed what came to mind higgledy-piggledy.
Huh. I'm not feeling it, you know. The higgledy-piggledy, I mean. Maybe it grows on you? :) :)
