As petronelle says, this is indeed the perfect superpower for Ray: caring, but just a teensy bit creepily obsessive (That looks worse in writing than it sounds in my head, but you understand what I mean, right?). I like the idea that all of that head-spinning bouncing back and forth is the very thing that gives balance.
