A/N: dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] sionnain, who loves the Rays, and who is having a bad day.

“You want to use what?” Ray disentangled himself from Kowalski, earning him a glare. It probably would have had more of an effect if Kowalski weren’t so disheveled from the serious make-out session they’d been having. And while a rumpled Kowalski was a hot Kowalski, the out-there suggestion he’d just made kind of put a damper on things for Ray.

“Butter,” he responded, half-growling. “Like you didn’t hear me the first time.” Now there was real attitude to go with the look. Great.

“I heard you. I just didn’t want to believe I heard you right. What is wrong with you that you don’t want to use lube like a normal person?” Ray narrowed his eyes. “We’re not out, are we? Because it was your turn to embarrass yourself at the drug store.”

Kowalski made a frustrated sound. “I didn’t forget, Vecchio. Jeez. It was just a suggestion.” Kowalski turned to gesture toward the television. “I was flipping channels earlier and-”

Ray held up his hands to stop Kowalski and stared at him, incredulous. “Wait, you got this idea from TV? What channels do we get that I don’t know about?”

Kowalski flopped back on the couch with a sigh. “It was Last Tango in Paris, okay? Brando and this chick were getting it on, and he used butter and I thought it looked kind of hot. Sorry if I offended your delicate sensibilities.”

Ray rolled his eyes as he settled in next to Kowalski. “Well it doesn’t sound hot to me, it sounds disgusting. Besides, it’d be hell on the sheets.”

That earned him a snort. “Like we never do anything that’s hell on the sheets.” Ray had to give him that one. But still…

“Sorry, I just don’t get it. Food is food and sex is sex. The two do not go together. Besides,” he added, “cooking reminds me too much of Ma, and that is definitely not a helpful direction for my thoughts to take when it comes to bedroom activities.”

Kowalski considered that for a few seconds, then nodded, relaxing and shifting closer to Ray. Thank God – he was one of the most infuriatingly stubborn people on the planet. And while arguing seemed to be one of their favorite forms of communication, Ray was really hoping they could get back to his number one favorite - good old-fashioned body language.
