My first (finished) DS ever. Tell me what you think!


“What, are you fucking kidding? Of course I can canoe, Fraser. You think you Canadians are the only ones allowed to enjoy the great outdoors? Just because I don’t like leaving the city now don’t mean I never been camping or canoeing, for god’s sake. I learned to canoe at camp – I was the fucking junior champion of canoeing when I was ten.” Ray jabbed a finger in Fraser’s direction for emphasis, then looked to see what kind of effect this had had on Fraser. He expected him to look at least a little impressed.

Fraser just looked puzzled and a bit surprised. He raised his hand and flicked at his eyebrow. “Well, Ray, that wasn’t precisely what I was asking. Perhaps there is a, ah, cultural gap between us here, making mutual understanding more difficult. When I asked if you wanted to 'go all the way out on the lake with me and my canoe,' I didn’t mean that we should simply paddle to the middle of the lake and return. It is, in fact, a colloquial expression, used mainly by teens, to, ah, ascertain a level of mutual interest in certain,” Fraser coughed, “—ah, activities. Youths in Inuvik used to joke that a true qualification of Canadian citizenship involved the skills necessary to balance a canoe while – ah.” Fraser stopped, and blushed.

Ray took a moment to translate Fraser’s explanation into plain English. Then he did it again just for good measure, because he wasn’t quite sure what he was hearing. “You used to fuck in canoes?” he said incredulously. Fraser blushed harder but managed to nod. “And you want to take a rickety old canoe out to the middle of the lake and have us do our level best to flip it over? Wildly bizarre ways, Fraser-buddy, wildly bizarre.” Ray hesitated. “Sure,” he said finally. “What the hell. Let’s go.”
