Apr. 23rd, 2003 08:21 amRay stared out into the rainy night, his mouth twisted, his arms wrapped tight around himself as he thought back on the look on Fraser's face.
Ray saw hurt in those blue eyes, hurt and pain, before the ice crinkled up around the edges of those eyes and that heart, and Ben slipped back into his frozen shell. And then Fraser had walked away. He'd walked away from four years of them, from their love and their life, and all because of what?
Because Stella had come to him, begging to be forgiven - 'Ray, I'm sorry, I don't know what I was thinking' and 'Ray, it was always so good between us' and 'Ray, let's make up. Let's be lovers again.', before the truth had come out - 'Ray and I fought, and I needed you.'.
Damned thing was, he believed her. He always believed her.
But still, Ray had turned her down gently, sending her back to Vecchio, knowing damn well it wasn't meant to be between him and his beautiful Gold Coast girl. She'd kissed him as she left, clinging to him like she used to, and when he'd opened the door to let her out, his Mountie stood there, looking between them, and Ray was consciously aware of the soft smudge of her makeup on his cheek as he watched Ben turn to ice.
And now?
Now he was alone.
He hugged himself tighter and hoped that Ben would come home so that they could make up, so that he could show Ben that he was what Ray needed.
As the rain fell, pattering on the window, reflecting in Ray's blue eyes, he heard the 'snick' of a key in the lock.
