So Fraser started the whole thing -- which, really, kind of shocked the hell out of Ray.

Ray was just standing there, minding his own business -- he was looking at the snow, actually, because for all that it could be a pain it was really kind of pretty, all pure and white and making something like this mess of a yard look like a Christmas card.

So Ray was in a different place *entirely* when he felt it, this hard, casual punch to his shoulder.

He almost would have sworn he imagined it, except that when he turned, Fraser was watching him with his eyebrow raised and a blank expression on his face that wasn't fooling anybody. Especially not with his eyes all weird-playful-expectant. He was *waiting*.

Ray grinned, baring his teeth, and returned the punch.

They jabbed at each other like that for a bit, and then Ray got a hand in the snow long enough to put together a quick snowball and throw. Which turned out to maybe not be the brightest of ideas, what with how a) Ray's glasses were still inside, and he couldn't hit the broadside of the barn and b) starting a snowball fight with a guy who practically grew up in an *igloo* didn't really play to Ray's advantages here.

So then he jammed in close, instead, back like before, and then Fraser pushed, or maybe Ray pulled, and they fell together into the snow. Ray landed hard on his ass, Fraser half on top of him. Ray shoved him off and rolled over, and then they were wrestling, like Ray hadn't done since junior high, all awkward limbs and testosterone. He was laughing and he thought Fraser might be too, and he could hear Dief running all around them, barking his brains out with excitement.

When they stopped, Fraser was on top, straddling Ray's chest, and both of them were breathing heavy. Ray's jeans were practically soaked through, and his lip had split somehow -- he could taste the blood in his mouth.

Fraser was smiling down at him. His face was glowing, even though Ray could tell he was gonna have a pretty good shiner on his right eye in a couple of hours from where Ray's elbow had jammed hard against his face. There was snow all over his jacket and in his hair.

Ray squinted up at him and said, "You know, Fraser, if you're waiting for me to say uncle, you're gonna have a long wait."

"Oh, I don't imagine I have that many millennia to spare, Ray."

"So what, then? Is this one of them Arctic customs? Partying and commingling in the snow?" Ray tried moving around a bit, but the bulk of Fraser's body had him weighed down solidly. Even his arms were pinned down between Fraser's legs. He didn't have any leverage at all.

Fraser didn't say anything, but he leaned over far enough to kiss Ray quickly on the mouth. When he moved away Ray could see their breath mingling together in the air, all white and wispy.

Ray was quiet for a couple of seconds, and then he said, "Oh, see, if you were going for a seduction type thing there -- maybe next time something a little less cold and wet and bloody."

Fraser's smile widened, and he said "I'll keep that in mind, Ray" and took his weight off Ray and stood up.

Ray lay there on his back in the snow for another moment -- what the hell just happened, anyway? -- and then he scrambled to his feet and followed Fraser inside.
