Actually, I was whapped by Ces for doing just this *g*
Technically, you are supposed to wait until the challenge is officially over before posting your story to your own personal lj or any of the archives. What you can do is post a notice on your lj and then link to your story here, but the story itself is only supposed to be posted here until the challenge is closed.
It makes sense, when you think about it. This way if there are people on your flist that aren't DS fans (the horror!) they will come here to read your story and then see all the other brilliant entries and hopefully be converted (yay!)
Estrella's got it--the rule is, you post your story to Flashfiction and then, if you want, you can LINK in your own journal until the challenge is over: That way a) comments are centralized and b) yes, hopefully people might come to the site and read more! After the challenge is closed, you can archive in LJ or your own site or wherever else.
Oooh, I didn't even know this, and I still followed the rules.
I'm so cool.
Anyway, I was wondering, is there a place that I can find out all the rules of this community? I was pretty lost at first, and I'm still not sure I haven't accidentally broken a rule or something, though I'm sure someone would have told me if I had. ::crosses fingers:: I just want to be careful.
There really weren't that many rules to start with, and cough we've basically broken most of them. There is an "Admin Posts and Rules" category in the memories section, but it basically comes down to this:
Stories of any word length you want should be posted in the time between when the challenge is issued and the time when the challenge is closed.
No posting of late stories to the community--sorry!
No cross-posting of stories, though you can link to DSFlashfiction from your page or LJ, and your story is yours once the challenge is over.
All ratings, all pairings, and any and all Rays you care to mention are welcome.
Please suggest ideas for future challenges in the comments section of previous challenges!
No OT posts: all posts must be either challenge responses, or requests for beta, which should be short and to the point.
I'll put this page into memories for future reference!
Glad I accidentially found this (suggestion: put it into the userinfo?) but I still have a question: this post itself is OT yet you did not delete it. I have an admin question, I may post it? I have a question about the last 10 fics collectively, I have to join another com? Thanks :)
If you have a question for me, you can post your question in the comments section of one of my admin posts and I'll answer it there. As we're doing right now. But you can't post general questions at the front of the community, no.
*lol* I know! But this post was by pixiecatfish, not you!
Cool.
Just something that connects the recent DS fics, and I guess the two other coms you mentioned are indeed better places for bringing it up, although I am not sure if all the same people read ds_writers :)
Ohhhh--you want *story* discussion! Hm. I think--okay, I think that if your question is about comparing fanfiction to some elements of canon, it can go to ds_discourse. Otherwise, I'd be happy to host whatever discussion over at [Bad username or site: DS_Noticeboard. @ livejournal.com] DS_Writers, I think, is specifically for beta, if I'm not wrong; discussion of stories in progress, rather than crit and analysis of specific stories. I'd think Discourse or Noticeboard would be your places, depending on what you want to say.
Does that help?
Oh, and I didn't see that it was pixie's post, sorry! I tend to have a lighter hand with the deleting if it's a first time post by a person who didn't know better--and in that case, there were obviously interesting results. I do have to fix the userinfos of various communities but I just haven't had time, sigh. Sorry, sorry!!
Maybe the notice board *nods* *checks html-source* or flashfiction? Yes. It is just about recent trends in fanfiction (posted to the noticeboard), not canon related and not beta.
I only mentioned the userinfo because I would surely have made the mistake myself *wibbles* Thanks :)
Seriously, don't wibble!--honestly, nobody ever gets smacked down here unless they're mean or insane. We LIKE people to play in DS! We LIKE story convo and smart questions!! Happy to have you play!
