Miracles Do Happen
Some people may call it a chain of coincidences, me, I think they're miracles. Okay, maybe minor miracles, but miracles just the same, that I happened to be available for an undercover assignment just at the time that Vecchio got called for his.
If that alone doesn't convince you, how about the fact that I chose that day, of all days, to wear a Kevlar vest? Yeah, people told me that the Mountie was nuts, but that wouldn't be enough to make me wear a vest. I don't know why I did. It was just a feeling that I had. Next thing you know, I'm stepping in front of a bullet with Fraser's name on it. I consider it a miracle too, that he asked me to eat with him that evening when it was all over. It cemented something between us.
I could give you plenty more. Like that time when Cahill was after my ass and Fraser, only Fraser, could keep me from being charged with murder. Then us both deciding that our partnership was worth salvaging. So, we didn't take reassignments, and me being freaked out by the whole thing. What did I do? Run off to Mexico with a chick that wrote bad checks. That one came out all right too. I came back home, and this time Fraser needed me. What if I hadn't been there? Then no homerun. Talk about your miracles.
I could go on and on, but I'm pulling out the big guns now. Beth Botrell. Without Fraser's help, I would have never seen that one through and gotten her off. That's a miracle, isn't it?
The biggest and best miracle of all, though, is the fact that I'm telling you all of this from the Northwest Territories of Canada. After me and Fraser, with the help of some other Mounties, got Muldoon, and Vecchio came back and went for my ex in a big way, me and Fraser went on an adventure. That adventure is still going on. Now that's a miracle.
