I humbly offer you 418 words of Fraser/Vecchio sap.

Ray and Benny were sitting on the sofa, watching the end of the evening news. As usual, the station closed the broadcast with a light-hearted, upbeat piece.

The story was about a dog who had accidentally been left behind when his owners moved and had walked almost 1,000 miles across the country to find them.

“What a miracle that was,” the perky blonde newscaster said.

Ray reached for the remote and turned the TV off in disgust. “Miracle my ass,” he said.

Benny looked at him in surprise. “I beg your pardon?”

“That wasn’t a miracle, Benny. It was just a smart dog. People are too easy to declare miracles these days. Anything just a tiny bit out of the ordinary happens, and it’s a miracle.

“I guess people are so eager to find miracles because there aren’t any real miracles in the world anymore.”

“Oh, I don’t agree with that at all, Ray.”

“Why am I not surprised,” Ray said, rolling his eyes.

Benny was not perturbed at all. “Miracles happen all the time,” he said calmly.

“Oh yeah, give me an example,” Ray demanded.

“I can give you several. First of all, it was a miracle that at the lowest point of my life, when I was in Chicago, all on my own trying to find my father’s killers, that I met someone who reached out a hand in friendship to me.

“And it’s another miracle that what I was sent back here you took me further under your wing, drawing me not only deeper into your friendship, but into your family as well.

“It’s a miracle that even after I betrayed you completely, you forgave me and continued the friendship.”

Ray tried to interrupt him, but Benny wouldn’t let him.

“And it’s an amazing miracle to me that I was able to open myself up enough, to trust enough, to fall in love with you.”

“And the most amazing miracle of all, one I still have a hard time believing, is that you actually love me, too.

“So you see, Ray, since I’ve personally been the recipient of so many miracles, I’m disinclined to say they don’t exist.”

Ray looked at him, his eyes suspiciously bright. He opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again and swallowed, then cleared his throat. “I’m nobody’s miracle, Benny,” he whispered.

“Do you really want to argue with me, Ray?”

“No,” Ray said. “No, I don’t.” Taking Benny’s face between his hands, he pulled him into a kiss.

That was a lovely lump-in-the-throat-inducing tidbit. Nicely done.

"I'm nobody's miracle, Benny," he whispered.

"Do you really want to argue with me, Ray?"

"No," Ray said. "No, I don't." Taking Benny's face between his hands, he pulled him into a kiss.

*sniffles* Wonderful, wonderful ending.

Awww...I just love a sweet tibit. And hey cool, I get to use my F/V icon. I don't get an opportunity to use it much. ::g::

So many great lines! My favorite:

And it's an amazing miracle to me that I was able to open myself up enough, to trust enough, to fall in love with you.

Love the ending too. Wonderful!
