I promise I'm writing a real story for the challenge (yes, the kissing one, [livejournal.com profile] lynnmonster), but I wrote this a year ago in a poetry class in response to an assignment in which we were to write a poem based on a TV show or a movie. It just occurred to me that the resulting prose poem is perfect for this challenge:

Words have always been my refuge. They are easy camouflage, as comfortable as the uniform and as habitual as courtesy. Other's stories roll up from my throat and down my tongue, safe and simple. And if I sometimes do not pay attention to them, it is only because I am too used to their grace -

But Ray, this second Ray, he uses words as weapons, as handshakes - almost as embraces at times, telling me his secrets and stories. He is the true poet, not I, with his stumbling tongue and flickering hands.

And I retreat, and hide, and find no speech.

Oooh, I especially like that last line.

Now -- write the kissing!

Wow. I loved this! Especially: with his stumbling tongue and flickering hands. Such a perfect, vivid image!
