"Handcuffs, Ray?"
Detective Ray Kowalski rolled his eyes towards the ceiling. "Geez, Fraser, you are the most unkinky person I know."
Constable Benton Fraser frowned. "Unkinky? Ray, I don't believe that that is a proper word."
Ray exhaled loudly. "Well, ya know, unkinky. Not kinky. You don't have a kink. Somethin' even remotely bizarre that drives ya crazy, somethin' that turns ya on." He couldn't believe he was having this conversation with the Mountie.
Fraser blushed and Ray swallowed. Yes, he had a kink for handcuffs and maybe a silk scarf over his eyes but this was his biggest kink - Fraser himself. Everything about that man drove him mad with desire, even the blushing part.
"Well, Ray," Fraser rubbed his eyebrow in that special way that could say so much more than a thousand words. This time it said 'I'm more than embarrassed but I can't let this go like this'. "Actually I do ..." He broke off.
Ray cocked his head to one side and leaned against the table behind him, not believing his ears and not trusting his legs. They felt like they could give way any minute now if Fraser continued his ...
"I like open meadows," the Mountie said, his voice sounding shamed, as if he had just told Ray the darkest secret he possessed.
Ray opened his mouth, waited a second for words to come out of it and closed it again after he was sure that none of the things he could have said wanted to be said.
Meadows. Open meadows. He gnawed at his lower lip, trying to figure out what the Mountie was trying to tell him. He gave it up after a short while and admitted defeat to his curiosity.
"Meadows?" he asked, staring at Fraser who was turning his hat around and around in his hands, a sure sign that he was more than uncomfortable.
"Well, you know, being out in the open, lying down in a field. Of corn maybe. Feeling the sun on ..." He stopped again, his face almost as red as his uniform.
Ray swallowed, once, twice, desperately trying to wet his dry mouth. Fraser's words had evoked pictures of a naked Mountie rolling around on a blanket on a sunny day, kissing the living daylights out of him.
He frantically shook his head, desperately trying to clear it. There was no way he could go down that road and stay calm and ...
The look on Fraser's face caught his attention. "Frase? Are you okay?"
The Mountie cracked his head first to the left side, then to the right. He was nervously licking his lower lip. "I'm sorry my little confession has caused you discomfort."
Slowly it dawned on Ray that Fraser must have mistaken the way he had shook his head for a sign of dismay. "No, no, no, Frase, it hasn't. I'm sorry it looked like that. It's just ..."
Now it was his turn to blush and he just knew red didn't suit him as much as it suited the Mountie. "It's just that for a moment I was sorry there were no open fields available."
The words were out of his mouth before he could think the words 'Kowalski, you are complete moron'. He raised his right hand to his face, covering as much of it as he could.
Looking at Fraser through his spread fingers he saw a little smile forming on the Mountie's full lips and he lowered his hands again.
Before he was able to say something Fraser moved, walking past him, whispering something into his ear on his way out of the station.
Ray turned around, watching the Mountie walk through the door and out onto the parking lot. He grabbed his jacket and stormed out of the room, trying to catch up with Fraser.
He could have sworn the Mountie had murmured 'Then why don't we try the handcuffs, Ray?'
