Sort of maybe cheating, but I just couldn’t help myself. *g*

loneliness, it’s such a waste of time

F/K, PG, 1600 words

With many many fulsome and grateful thanks to [livejournal.com profile] _aerye_ for her inspiring beta ways. Dialogue by Eleanor Bergstein, more or less. Title from Cry to Me by Solomon Burke.

Huh. Who knew there'd ever be a way I'd like that movie? Brilliant.

It took me an embarassingly long time to figure out what you were quoting. For some reason it was the line “Yeah, I go get my father,” said Benton, bitterly that made everything snap into focus. At which point I burst into guffaws.

You rule.

Me too! It was around that line that something niggled into place. For some reason, I thought it was Pretty in Pink at first, Duckie and Blaine. Too many eighties movies on the brain.

But geez, it's pretty and sweet, especially the dance at the end.

I caught on at the mention of Kellerman's, and am so in love! Absolutely brilliant!

And now I'm picturing Ray and Fraser in the GTO, and Fraser looks at Ray and says, "You're wild!" and Ray kind of laughs/grunts at him. (My favorite part of Dirty Dancing, and it's kind of embarrassing.)

Me, too, are we nerds or what? :p

It really did fit, though--hell, all the dialogue could have been made for them. Awesome. :D

(Also, I am now imagining Fraser and RayK dancing "Dos Toros," and it is a warm and happy place.)

Ooohhh, this was wonderful. I didn't catch on until about half way through, but I still loved it. Once I'd figured it out I went back and reread it. Great job.

Because I'm a product of the 80s, and I lost my shame a while back, I can admit in public how much I love this movie, in all its cheesy cheesiness. And this. This is brilliant. It took me until Benton came into the room to get it, although I was wondering what the hell a Kellerman's summer was the first time I read it.

I can just see Benton and Ray dancing to "Love is Strange" and doing the routine at the end, with the lift... Just all of it. Yay! Thank you.

Now all I need is for someone to do a manip of Ray and Benton onto Jennifer and Patrick.

Omg. I am rather frightened but pleased to say that I got it right away. *g* The characterizations work scarily well, actually. Ray, shirtless, and Ben w/ eyeliner... *slurp*

Bwahahah! *dies*

This is so cooool. I spent the first paragraph thinking "why do I know the name Kellerman's?", got it by about the third and had to take a break from reading to laugh like a hyena! And then I had that stupid little song from the show in my head all the way through the rest. Though it thankfully went away when they started to dance, because that was extremely hot and wonderful.

(is there going to be a sequel where Ray declares "Nobody puts Fraser in the corner"?) *giggles*

I love the feel of this fic. I mean, it's kind of hilarious that you used the dialogue from the movie, and it's hard to picture Fraser saying those things and not Baby, and half way through the fic I started imagining Ray and Fraser doing that sweet lift during the final dance scene, with Fraser in full air plane mode and Ray trying desperately not to drop him while the music swells and everyone whistles and applauds.

BUT. After I stopped thinking about that, I thought about how lovely it is to imagine Ray as the dancer, short on luck and long on talent, and Fraser as the privileged younger son of a prominent doctor, and how impossible and wild and free their romance would be, and it's kind of amazingly fantastic.

So thanks for all those late night thoughts, and for such a sweet fic. :)
