...since Speranza hasn't called this one yet. Around 300 words of untitled pre-slash, not to be taken too seriously. Written in a hurry and given a quick read through by hydrostatic_testsubject (who's only seen as many episodes of dS as I have.)
"...I was out on patrol when I saw the ship crash..."
Benton's back arched as the fire ran through his veins, pricking sharply at his nerves, making his muscles jerk and contract. Then it crested, leaving him weak and limp. What was his father going on about now? How could he just stand there, rattling on about some nonsense when Benton was burning?
"....the only survivor. I took him back to the cabin, where your mother and I tended..."
He should have gotten help, seen a doctor earlier. But he'd hardly been sick a day in his life, and he hadn't felt sick then. A bit irritable, perhaps. Shorter of temper. But he'd felt strong.
"....his wounds healed quickly..."
"....could tell something else was wrong..."
Whatever it was, had he let it go too long? He felt so weak now, and he needed...
"....can't believe I agreed to it, but we couldn't just let him die. Not when your mother could help him..."
He needed....
"....to take him home before we knew you were on the way. Thankfully you're more like us than like them.Though you do have his hair. And his musical ability. And I swear sometimes, the way your mind works..."
"...can hear things and seem to know what that damn wolf is thinking...."
Yes...yes...he needed. If he could just get what he needed, that would save him.
"....grandparents and I kept an eye out for signs, but you always seemed a bit oblivious to women. Well, mostly. Your irrational passion for..."
"...you see, son? You've got to find a woman. Or you'll die. That Meg Thatcher, she's a mountie, at least..."
Thatcher? No, she wasn't what he needed.
"....Ray...."
The End
"When I first came to Chicago, I felt as though I were from another planet."
"Which you are."
"Which I have come to accept."

Oh Cool....
Date: 2005-07-04 03:23 am (UTC)I love your 'you know' drabble, btw. I also did your poll. Just for future reference, the answer is always 'write porn.'
Re: Oh Cool....
Date: 2005-07-04 03:54 am (UTC)But really you made the Trekie in me so damn happy with that one. My mom and me just watched that ep too.

Date: 2005-07-04 04:11 am (UTC)I don't know that Bob would be that...sanguine about Caroline and Spock, even if it was to save his life.
I get what you mean. I'd certainly have trouble with it, if it were me. Originally Fraser was going to be the product of some other Human/Vulcan coupling who'd been left with Bob and Caroline like a changeling left by the Fairies. But then I ran this idea by Hydrostatic Test Subject and the look on his face when I got to "not when your mother could help him" and I knew I had it. And my brain refused to write anything else. He wasn't so sure...
HTS: "I don't know. I just don't see Bob offering up his wife like that."
Me: "Maybe it's Caroline's idea and he's just agreeing to it to save Vulcan Guy's life."
HTS: "Maybe Bob's away when it happens and she has to decide."
Me: "If Bob's not there to agree then she's just fucking around on him. Her husband goes away and she takes the first opportunity to do the alien?"
HTS: "Does Caroline have a sister maybe?"
Me: "Horny aliens dropping out of the sky and some mysterious sister with no basis in canon? That's a little much all at once. I might as well just write 'changeling left by the Fairies!' I'm going in the other room."
Where I tried to write the other version, but it just wasn't happening. So I decided to just go with this. Definitely not to be taken too seriously:)

Date: 2005-07-04 05:13 am (UTC)So do I. Isn't the internet wonderful? In the Old Days I managed to get my hands on one, maybe two K/S 'zines. When I got on line I went K/S crazy. Then discovered the Whole Wide World of Slash *hugs computer.*
I thought up this story as a one-off, joke sort of thing. This is only the second fic I've posted since I got on line. Before that I hadn't really written much fic since I was in a ST club back in the '80s. And I've never actually written porn. But now you have me wondering. I'd be willing to give it a try, but I'd definitely need help. On the dS end of it, I've only seen up to half way through season 2. On the slash end, it would certainly help to have a beta that wasn't my husband, the extremely indulgent but completely heterosexual guy;)

Date: 2005-07-04 05:35 am (UTC)I'd be happy to beta for you, if you like. Your Benton voice seems pretty spot on to me, so far and that very first paragraph about what Benton's feeling physically had a good, tactile, visceral feel which suggests you should be able to handle porn if you want too.

Date: 2005-07-11 08:25 am (UTC)I'd love it if you would beta for me. Thank you. Though it does occur to me that if I'm going to write more of this I'll need to pick a Ray. I've been deliberately vague so far so the reader can insert her Ray of Choice. I should probably see some Kowalski eps first so I know which one I prefer, and if it turns out to be RayK, get enough of a handle on the character to write him. Luckily, Ceares is going to send me the eps on data cd so I can watch them on my computer.
I'm realizing how long it's been since I've read any K/S, I've been so busy exploring other fandoms. I remember Killashandra and Grey Wolf being big names in the fandom, so I'm sure I must have read some of their stuff, but my poor squishy brain isn't bringing any particular stories to mind. My more recent forays into Trek fanfic came after finding a book at a Friends of the Library sale called Treks Not Taken: A Parody by Steven R. Boyett. It's written as if famous authors had done ST:TNG eps in their own style. In "Less than Data" 'Geordache' and 'Worfarer' take Data back to W's cabin ("We're worried about you. You look pale.") They all get hopped up on drugs, strip, then G "says he would like to request a transfer to a Data-entry position." I LMAO, then was overcome with urge to read Data/Geordie porn. Wasn't able to find very much and ended up reading a bunch of Q/Picard, some Chakotay/Paris and a smattering of Enterprise fics. But I'm an OS girl at heart, so I'll definitely have to reacquiant myself.

Date: 2006-06-19 12:27 am (UTC)As to which Ray ... hmm, well I'm not an OTP person but I think that the feel of a pon farr type story (the whole deep, mental intimacy, profoundly intense sexuality etc) suits Ray K a little better IMO. He's a kinda over the top, love forever, buddies type guy. Plus the show supports that sort of semi-telepathic bond via the way Fraser and Ray K are supposed to work so well together they often dont' have to speak to share plans. OTOH-there's an episode in the Ray V years which suggests a strong 'mental' awareness of each other as well. So...that dosen't help too much LOL

Thanks for the comments!! And I'll definitely check out ksarchive.com

And, lets not forget ... the grandfather of all slash fandoms--Star Trek! A Star Trek/due South crossover is required, because we all know that Benton Fraser came from another planet, after all. http://one-traveller.livejournal.com/profilehttp://one-traveller.livejournal.com/profileone_traveller also qualifys as a new author to the due South fandom and a lovely addition she is!

And by the by, sorry it's taking me so long with the cds but my computer isn't the fastest thing in the world-plus I took a mini-road trip. One season is finished, and I'm working on the other, so let's say they should be in the mail in a week.
I'll be looking forward to more RayK. goodness :)

Ever since I've gotten my hands on the episodes I've been developing a thing for StrongBen, Fraser-with-an-edge. Like the scene in Bird In The Hand, where without warning he whirls Gerard around, plants a foot on his chest, and pins him there with his tall, shiny, leather boot....
Uh, please excuse me. I need a moment to collect myself.

Date: 2006-06-21 07:11 am (UTC)Credit for blending the two fandoms goes to Guilietta(Mondschein1)and her story for this challenge. Discussing it with my husband got my brain going and got me thinking about Fraser and Pon Farr. (Having met at a ST club meeting over twenty years ago we're not strangers to Trek inspired romance;)
maybe she informed him she was going to...
A woman of strong convictions, apparently, and not afraid to do a really hot alien in order to save his life.*g* But yeah, I'd have a pretty hard time with that in real life.
gonna go find a copy of "Dead Bird" and watch Strong!Ben w/my A/C on).
Ah, a Mountie and his tall, shiny leather boots...it's a beautiful thing.
