...since Speranza hasn't called this one yet. Around 300 words of untitled pre-slash, not to be taken too seriously. Written in a hurry and given a quick read through by hydrostatic_testsubject (who's only seen as many episodes of dS as I have.)

"...I was out on patrol when I saw the ship crash..."

Benton's back arched as the fire ran through his veins, pricking sharply at his nerves, making his muscles jerk and contract. Then it crested, leaving him weak and limp. What was his father going on about now? How could he just stand there, rattling on about some nonsense when Benton was burning?

"....the only survivor. I took him back to the cabin, where your mother and I tended..."

He should have gotten help, seen a doctor earlier. But he'd hardly been sick a day in his life, and he hadn't felt sick then. A bit irritable, perhaps. Shorter of temper. But he'd felt strong.

"....his wounds healed quickly..."

"....could tell something else was wrong..."

Whatever it was, had he let it go too long? He felt so weak now, and he needed...

"....can't believe I agreed to it, but we couldn't just let him die. Not when your mother could help him..."

He needed....

"....to take him home before we knew you were on the way. Thankfully you're more like us than like them.Though you do have his hair. And his musical ability. And I swear sometimes, the way your mind works..."

"...can hear things and seem to know what that damn wolf is thinking...."

Yes...yes...he needed. If he could just get what he needed, that would save him.

"....grandparents and I kept an eye out for signs, but you always seemed a bit oblivious to women. Well, mostly. Your irrational passion for..."

"...you see, son? You've got to find a woman. Or you'll die. That Meg Thatcher, she's a mountie, at least..."

Thatcher? No, she wasn't what he needed.

"....Ray...."

The End

"When I first came to Chicago, I felt as though I were from another planet."

"Which you are."

"Which I have come to accept."

-Call of the Wild, pt. II

Inspired by Giulitta's (Mondshein1) "Six Days on Vulcan" from this same challenge, an article from an old issue of "Trek" magazine about how Sherlock Holmes might have been a Vulcan, and the Unlikely Elf Challenge. (Yeah right, like I could make links to this stuff. I had to look up how to make cut tags:)

*G* I think I must have been on a sugar high or something that day, but I've been threaten with unspeakables if I ever write more of it.

But really you made the Trekie in me so damn happy with that one. My mom and me just watched that ep too.

clever! It took me to the end to figure it out. Of course, Bob's blithering didn't help! Poor Fraser! I have to admit, I don't know that Bob would be that ... sanguine about Carolyn and Spock, even if it was to save his life.

Oh, please, don't misunderstand - I do love it! and Bob just not quite able to get it out -- more than makes up for my wondering about his "generousity".

After that I laugh for ten minutes more

Oh, dear *god* ... more please, please, please! Vuclans and due South - my god, I'm gonna die! I *love* pon farr stories... and this ... I'm incoherent with want. Don't stop now. please?

I assume then that you've read Killashandra's work and Grey Wolf? Classic ST: OS writers.

I'd be happy to beta for you, if you like. Your Benton voice seems pretty spot on to me, so far and that very first paragraph about what Benton's feeling physically had a good, tactile, visceral feel which suggests you should be able to handle porn if you want too.

Meep. I noticed that I never replyed to this entry and I must apologize muchly. It was not due to lack if interest, but rather lack of brains. If you are still interested in persuing this, I certianly still am and if not--I certianly understand.

As to which Ray ... hmm, well I'm not an OTP person but I think that the feel of a pon farr type story (the whole deep, mental intimacy, profoundly intense sexuality etc) suits Ray K a little better IMO. He's a kinda over the top, love forever, buddies type guy. Plus the show supports that sort of semi-telepathic bond via the way Fraser and Ray K are supposed to work so well together they often dont' have to speak to share plans. OTOH-there's an episode in the Ray V years which suggests a strong 'mental' awareness of each other as well. So...that dosen't help too much LOL

What fun! Fraser in pon farr! I just saw this story on a recs list, so had to come take a look.

>>>I remember Killashandra and Grey Wolf being big names in the fandom, so I'm sure I must have read some of their stuff, but my poor squishy brain isn't bringing any particular stories to mind.

You can find a lot of great K/S stories at ksarchive.com

And, lets not forget ... the grandfather of all slash fandoms--Star Trek! A Star Trek/due South crossover is required, because we all know that Benton Fraser came from another planet, after all. http://one-traveller.livejournal.com/profilehttp://one-traveller.livejournal.com/profileone_traveller also qualifys as a new author to the due South fandom and a lovely addition she is!

This was cool and clever, and even believeable since ghosts, lip reading wolves and alien abduction are canon for dS. I'm not a big trekkie so it took me a couple of minutes to figure it out, but even I'm familiar with Pon Farr, so then I went Ohh!

Ray K-definitely, I'm afraid I have a terrible jones for CKR, but beyond that, I think because the character was so vunerable, and really needed Fraser-who certainly above all I think needed to be needed.
That being said, I enjoy the blended fics that have a strong element of RayV friendship thrown into the F/K.
And by the by, sorry it's taking me so long with the cds but my computer isn't the fastest thing in the world-plus I took a mini-road trip. One season is finished, and I'm working on the other, so let's say they should be in the mail in a week.

I'll be looking forward to more RayK. goodness :)

How clever! And funny. Poor Fraser. He's got Pon Farr and and has to listen to Bob prattle on and on. Too bad a lipra wouldn't work on him. :g:

Run Fraser ... run to Ray!!! It took me a while to work out what exactly was going on (having never seen Star Treck) then I remembered the Pon Farr thing from Mondschein's story and it all made sense *g* And stories with Bob always get a squee from me!

Ha! I love pon farr, too, and this was exquisitely done. The structure really worked for me and I particularly liked these lines: But he'd hardly been sick a day in his life, and he hadn't felt sick then. A bit irritable, perhaps. Shorter of temper. But he'd felt strong.

Heh...ah, fanfiction that makes you think! I read this last night and just thought "Fuck it, it's too confusing, I'm not going to bother." Then I looked at it again, and now it all makes so much sense :) Clever stuff, nicely done!

OMG, it didn't occur to me to blend these two fandoms - but you did & the result is greatness! Yes, I also wondered about Bob 'agreeing' to have Caroline save Spock's life, but maybe she informed him that she was going to...Thanks so much for posting this! (I am now gonna go find a copy of "Dead Bird" and watch Strong!Ben w/ my A/C on).
