Pearl_o just has the most amazing ideas. Dig this:

"So, you know, our stories have a lot of variation, but there's still mostly a common genre we all stick to in writing our fanfiction. So what I think would be really cool would be a Genre Challenge -- for all of us to pick a specific genre of writing and write our fanfiction in that, with its style and rules.

An incomplete of possible genres: mystery, detective story, thriller, horror, ghost story, historical fiction, harlequin or regency romance, sf, fantasy, western, drama, children's book, Platonic dialogue, memoir/biography, academic paper, newspaper or magazine article, textbook, religious text, chronicle, guidebook, reference book...

"Once upon a time, there was a Mountie named Benton Fraser who..." "Benton Fraser looked down at his chronograph. It was April 4, 2083, and his chrono was chiming thirteen..." "Ray jumped...but it was just the shutters banging. Wasn't it?"

Have a blast, people.

For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, stories will be due Monday, October 3rd at midnight.

Challenge suggestion: The Something Gets It challenge, where each story has to include the line or a variation on "Nobody move, or the [X] gets it!"

[X] could be the hat, the lady, the kid, the Mountie, the llama, the GTO, the whatever.
