Hello... I haven't done this before, so if I offend in any way, please believe me, it's accidental. Thank you!

Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: G
Around 350 words.

“Certainly, Francesca.”

“Oh, Fraser...”

He backpedaled three vital inches before running up against the edge of the desk. “Although frankly, I don’t understand why people keep asking me that. As I explained to Detective, well, the current Ray Vecchio, I’m really not qualified to judge.”

“Oh, Fraser, of course you –- Wait. What?

“Standards of beauty in the Northwest Territories are, naturally, somewhat different than those that seem to pertain here in Chicago. Vitality and grace of movement are valued more highly than exaggerated secondary sex characteristics, for ex–”

“He asked you what?

“The same question you did, Francesca.”

“That scrawny little... and you didn’t think that was, oh, weird at all? A little queer maybe?”

“Well, to be frank–-” Fraser ducked his head and his smooth delivery hopped the tracks in a few places. “It’s an idiom that has a different implication in Canadian usage. I initially mistook his meaning for one less –- but from the reactions of the widow and two cigar smugglers observing our conversation, I quickly realized that in America the use of ‘find’ for ‘think’ must be quite normal.”

Frannie’s eyes went gimletlike; her nostrils flared. Fraser blinked at her and shifted his weight on the balls of his feet in case of attack. Then she pulled back, smoothing her pretty face down to something unnaturally composed.

“That’s right, Fraser. Perfectly normal, nothing to make a person ... panic. Oh! Look at the time! You’ll excuse me, won’t you, Fraser? I’ve got someone to kill.”

The door closed behind her frame: small and sturdy, appealingly vital, but not, to Fraser’s mind, with one tenth of the siren magnetism possessed by Ray Kowalski. To name one example chosen entirely at random. (Oh dear.) Yes, he could easily have run into difficulties, had she pushed him to elaborate on his answer.

Thank goodness she had remembered an appointment.
