ADMIN: Self-Insertion challenge
Feb. 21st, 2008 01:19 pmWrite yourself into a Due South story. That's it. Your real self, in your real job or in your real home town or while you're on vacation, whatever you see fit. You can have a bit part, a walk-on role, or you can be a major character in the story. You can mess with the timelines, or you can write you-in-the-nineties or them now.
Maybe you're the Vecchios' neighbor, wondering why you hear gunshots coming from the back of their house in the middle of the night. Maybe your kid brother went to high school with Kowalski. Maybe Fraser rescued you when your purse got snatched. Maybe Welsh used to date your third cousin Zelda (twice removed).
You can be a crime victim, a perpetrator, a witness. A case could bring the guys into contact with you through your job. It's up to you.
But if you Mary Sue yourself as the romantic interest of one of the Due South folks? We reserve the right to point and laugh. I'm just sayin'. ;-)
It's February 20, CST -- stories are due by midnight, March 5, CST.

Date: 2008-02-21 12:58 am (UTC)I notice the way you have this worded, you leave open the possibility of writing myself as the romantic interest of TWO of the DS folks...

Date: 2008-02-21 09:37 pm (UTC)The idea of self-insertion Mary-Sue porn makes me cover my eyes (even though every time I type "self-insertion" is does sound kinda dirty). ;-)

Date: 2008-02-24 07:19 pm (UTC)I mean, I know what tv characters sound like. I know what friends and family sound like. Haven't the foggiest idea what I sound like.
Not that most readers would know either, I guess. But if I'm doing me I'd like to think I was doing it RIGHT.

Date: 2008-02-24 08:05 pm (UTC)Heh. Got any RL friends who could beta for you? Or, riffing off what Mal says above, you could always write yourself unconscious, or suddenly struck mute, or only able to quote lines from Hamlet. ;-) *eggs you on*
Newbie in the mix
Date: 2008-02-28 11:23 pm (UTC)CST is a few hours behind GMT right? Never could work that stuff out.
Re: Newbie in the mix
Date: 2008-02-28 11:51 pm (UTC)Click here to find out Chicago time. I rarely close challenges exactly on time, though, especially if I know there's something in the works. More fic is always good. :-)
Re: Newbie in the mix
Date: 2008-03-01 02:28 am (UTC)Well I've started writing mine, though trying to remember what I was like in the 90's was... entertaining :) I'll most likely aim for midnight GMT on the 5th as a deadline, just to keep things straightforward, though I hope to be able to post before then.
Thanks for the welcome. This place looks interesting :)

Date: 2008-03-03 02:20 pm (UTC)Do you know if there is a treeline or fencing between Washington Park and East 51st, and if you can see through to the other side of whatever divide it is? Or failing that, is there a park which looks like the one that appears in Due South a lot? I'm struggling to find any useful info online.
*Confidence morphs into a Lemming, and runs about looking for a handy cliff*

Date: 2008-03-03 10:49 pm (UTC)Re: Newbie in the mix
Date: 2008-03-03 11:26 pm (UTC)Sorry, for some reason I thought you lived in Chicago, though now I can't figure out why I thought that.
And I have another question *hides* Is it limited to one story post? Because, I've actually drafted two, and I wondered if it was ok to post both. But I couldn't see that in the guidelines anywhere.
*tells brain to stop thinking up questions*
Re: Newbie in the mix
Date: 2008-03-03 11:35 pm (UTC)And there's no limit on number of entries for a challenge. Well, if someone posted ten I might step in, but in general, go for your life. The more, the merrier!
