ADMIN: Wager challenge

Announcing the Wager challenge. Would Fraser ever gamble for money? What about for other things? When the stakes are high, whose nerve breaks first? What happens when good bets go bad?

It's November 14. Stories are due by midnight, November 28, Chicago time.


While I'm here, just a few adminly reminders:

1. Challenge entries must be posted only to this community for the duration of the challenge. Exception: entries that won't fit in an LJ post may be posted to an external website, but all links to the story (e.g. from your personal LJ) must be to the ds_flashfiction post. Future posts that link to flashfics on other LJs will be deleted. Once the challenge is over, do what you will. :-)

2. Subject lines should be in the format: [challenge name] by [username] (eg. Catapult challenge by Nice Pile o'Rocks). This both reminds readers of the current challenge (hopefully garnering more fic) and makes life easier for our trusty archiver of awesome.

3. Do not announce your challenge entry on ds_noticeboard. From time to time, I will post a round-up of recent flashfics. (Apologies for not having done this lately. I'll get on it.)

4. You can make suggestions for future challenges on any admin post. We're always looking for more ideas -- put on your thinking caps and go crazy. :-)

I think there ought to be a barrel full of monkeys challenge. No, really! Comedy! Fraser insisting that something is "more fun than a barrel full of monkeys!" and his Ray snorting into his hand, "yeah, right." Or, literal monkeys. 12 Monkeys. Casefic revolving around the Lincoln Park Zoo. Casefic revolving around a comedian. The Duck Boys' comedy club. Dief befriends a Helper Monkey for the disabled and Turtle is jealous? (Hi, stranger things have happened ON THE SHOW. :P) Or barrels full of things that aren't monkeys (smuggled arms, etc.), despite being labeled as such. There are LOTS of possibilities.

Monkeys GOOD!! And these suggestions are a riot - are there such things as plot monkeys? I think they'd be much harder to wrangle than bunnies.

As for my suggestions... in reading through past challenges, one that I adored (and yes, I know what this says about me) was the badfic challenge. I laughed until I cried MANY times reading those entries.

On a more serious note, what about a language or (mis)communication challenge? Frannie and her interesting malapropisms, Fraser speaking several languages (and communicating with the dead), RayK's colorful metaphors... I see a lot of potential, obviously.

Ooh, it's been a long time since we had a special event challenge on ds_flashfiction, huh? Maybe after Christmas. *notes down badfic challenge for consideration* :-)
