A short scene for the 'Challenge challenge'. Unbetaed, written by an EFL speaker. Britishisms and grammar mistakes - please ignore?

Lunch hour, finally, and they were in that small Italian place just around the corner. The place with the dirty floor (which Fraser didn’t like) and the homemade food (which Fraser liked)

Ray peeked at Fraser through the corner of his eyes; it was always a show to watch him when they went to Chiapparellis. Fraser wrinkled his nose at the greasy tabletop and hung his Stetson on the little, wooden knob sticking up from the back of his chair.  Ray hoped the sacred hat wouldn’t unhang itself and fall down into the filth and crumbles Dief was grazing on making his small growling noises.

They slumped down around the small formica table while Mama Chiapparelli clanked down glasses and platters with an eat tutti, boys. Well, he slumped. Fraser sat stiffly and Vecchio slouched in his well-dressed, Italian manner. Not that this stopped them in any way from continuing their boast-fest. Ray continued peeking at Fraser, because, fuck, he had to focus on Vecchio.

“I beat you hands down,Stanley,” Vecchio was saying. I had my first kiss at ten!”

“Mebbe so, Vecchio, but I was French kissing…the fucking cheer leader in front of the vending machine in the school canteen at thirteen.” Ray was still secretly stunned that had happened, but he wasn’t in any way going to lead Vecchio on to that.

Fraser squirmed in his chair and pretended to scrutinize his Penne Antoinette. Probably trying to count those ugly peas.

“Oooo. How was that?” Vecchio raised an eyebrow.

“Messy. Wet.” Ray smirked. “Was applauded, though.”

Vecchio picked up his fork and conducted a victory fanfare. “I made out with Jenny on a mat in the gymnasium between lessons in junior high.”  So there! Vecchio’s glance said.

Fraser flushed and chewed nervously. At least Ray thought he looked nervous, and most often he was right on the spot when it came to what Fraser was feeling.

“Well, hell. I’ll top you there.” Ray checked with Fraser to see if he got the innuendo. The tell-tale cracking sounds told their story.

“Oh?” Vecchio attacked his wine.

“Sure. I fucked Olga on a pick-nick table in Brookfield Zoo…on a Sunday morning!” Ray needed to…”That was before me and Stella was serious, you see, Frase.”

Fraser nodded sagely at that, clutching his forgotten silverware.

“Christ. Fuck.” Vecchio slammed down his glass. “Pardon my French, Benny.”

Fraser blinked once, “apology accepted, Ray.”

“I once got a blow job by a guy in the locker room at the McFetridge Sports Center.” Vecchio sat back, looking, Ray thought, unsure of their reactions, but sure he had won.

Fraser’s flush had crept down to cover his neck.

“Err.” Ray’s mind flickered briefly back to last night. The night when he had talked Ben into finally, finally making love to him in the fucking Queen’s Bed at the consulate. Which had been an even bigger turn-on than his kinky mind had anticipated; proof provided by his funny walk today.

“I…” But no way could he score on that. He straightened up in his chair and focused earnest eyes on Vecchio, ignoring the strangled noises coming from Ben and the lump in his own throat.

“You didn’t! What was it like?”

Vecchio smiled beatifically.

Oh my. That was so funny - and sweet too; RK finding himself compelled to add that qualifier - the picnic table incident was before he and Stella were an item - and of course he wouldn't use the events of last night, not even to trump Vecchio! Really nice.

BTW, shouldn't Hel Virago get some sort of extra prescience prize for this http://www.livejournal.com/community/ds_flashfiction/129458.html
(in case it's slipped your mind: do NOT re-read this anywhere people aren't supposed to see you lying on the floor incapacitated) - which seems to fit this challenge too?

love and thanks to all the talent and craftspersonship that gives us so much pleasure,

Awww! And hee! This is great fun. Ray is so cute when he's being thoughtful.

I was wondering about Fraser's reaction -- but I thought maybe it was because he had them both beat

Completely thinking the same thing over here.

But who needs more than one twist when this one was so nice?

I can't believe I didn't comment on this earlier and say how much I liked this idea. And the Ray and Ray competition. :)
