Twelve buttons, and only ten were any good most of the time. He needed to press eleven buttons to do what needed doing, and he would one of these days; he was sure of it. But whenever he thought about squashing those buttons flat and getting on track, he turned it around, because he wasn’t the only one with eleven buttons to push. Fraser had them on his end, too, so why couldn’t he push his before Ray had to?

Eleven buttons, and Ray knew exactly which order to press them in. He just wanted Fraser to push them first.
